Transparency International has released the results of the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), revealing a stark and concerning global decline in anti-corruption efforts. The global average plummeted to a new decade-low score of 42 out of 100, with the organization warning that a persistent decline in bold, accountable political leadership is actively undermining institutional reforms and weakening regulatory enforcement worldwide.
• Strong Institutional Standing for 5 Caribbean Islands: In contrast to the global downward trend, key Caribbean nations holding investment migration pathways maintained robust scores well above the global average. Barbados led the regional cohort with (68 points), followed by St. Vincent and the Grenadines at (63 points), Dominica at (60 points), St. Lucia at (59 points), and Grenada firmly holding (56 points), highlighting stable public sector integrity within these jurisdictions.
• Widespread Declines Across Global Rankings: Adjudicating 182 countries and territories on public sector corruption perceptions, the index revealed that over two-thirds of nations scored below the 50-point threshold. Denmark retained the top position with 89 points, closely followed by Finland and Singapore, while established democracies including the United States, Canada, and France experienced gradual declines in their scores.
• The Anti-Corruption Leadership Gap: The analysis highlights that weakening checks and balances, coupled with increasing restrictions on civic space and media freedoms, have systematically allowed public sector corruption to flourish. The report underscores that even top-performing nations continue to enable global corruption by facilitating cross-border money laundering and the illicit transfer of corrupt proceeds.
• Urgent Demands for Systemic Transparency: Transparency International called upon global leaders to revitalize political commitment by strengthening judicial independence, enhancing oversight on public services and procurement, and keeping unaccountable money out of politics. The body emphasized the necessity of closing structural secrecy loopholes to safeguard international financial and investment landscapes.
