The only bird that dares to peck at an eagle is the crow. It sits on its back and bites its neck. However, the eagle does not respond nor fight with the crow, it spends no time on the crow and instead the eagle opens its wings and soars even higher. The higher the flight the tougher it is for the crow to breathe, then the crow falls down from the lack of oxygen.

By analogy, it means that once a person moves towards the set goals, obstacles and challenges abound, but for as long as you keep pushing yourself, every unnecessary thing will fall off by itself.

Waste not your time with the crows and soar higher towards your purpose.

Diwali or Deepavali is the Indian festival of lights, usually lasting five days, which symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". [Wikipedia]

This important occasion was foreign to me until I came to the UAE. Through friends, I came to appreciate its meaning, which is not so different from the celebrations in other cultures.

Those celebrating replace the old with something new -- renovating homes, donning new clothes, and reaffirming relationships with family.

In my own reflection, it means gratitude, empathy, tolerance.

To all my friends who are celebrating, I wish you a thousand lights shining on you, blessing you with health, happiness and prosperity not only on this day but in all the days of your life. Happy Diwali!
