Construction has started on Jordan’s 403-kilometre Aqaba-Al-Shidiyeh-Maan Railway.

Beijing-headquartered China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and China First Highway Engineering Company are delivering the project, which will connect Aqaba with mining and production sites, as well as the Maan logistics zone. The railway is expected to transport around 16 million tonnes of phosphate and potash annually to Aqaba’s ports.

Saudi Aramco has selected an Italian-Greek/Lebanese contractor consortium to carry out EPC works on a major project to build onshore surface facilities aimed at boosting production from the Safaniya offshore oil field.

Safaniya is the world’s largest offshore oil field, with a production capacity of nearly 1.2 million barrels a day. The field was discovered in 1951 and is located in Gulf waters about 265km north of Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran.

Nama Power & Water Procurement Company is developing the pilot, which will use DOME’s closed-cycle technology to store electricity by liquefying carbon dioxide.

The CO2 is then expanded through a turbine to generate electricity when needed. The project could provide Oman with a new long-duration energy storage solution as the country expands its renewable energy capacity.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Park is moving closer to opening. The King Salman Park Foundation is preparing a phased soft opening as the Riyadh project transitions from construction to operations.

95% of Phase 1 and 2 contracts have now been awarded, while the Royal Arts Complex is expected to be handed over to the Ministry of Culture within six months.
