EXCLUSIVE: According to industry sources, Syria is preparing to launch tenders this year for projects to upgrade the country’s refining infrastructure.

Before the civil war began in 2011, the Homs and Baniyas refineries had a combined processing capacity of 250,000 barrels a day. Today, they are operating at just 20% of that level, refining approximately 50,000 barrels a day.

The state-owned Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) is reportedly targeting the start of project ex*****on next year, marking a potentially significant step towards restoring and expanding the country’s refining capabilities.
