Climate change impacts starting causing serious harm:

In Europe, some cities registered the highest ever temperatures while fires are expending and obliging people to escape their homes. Meanwhile, many countries in Europe are already suffering from serious drought.
“It’s going to get worse over the next few years,” said Nigel Arnell, a professor of climate system science at the University of Reading
“Similar events in the future will last longer and cover larger areas.”

On May 9 and 10, 2022, V4 Advisors conducted a series of meetings and workshops with Gefyra's team in Greece. During these meetings, the results of the GHG inventories (from 2015 till 2020), were discussed in details. Results on achieved reductions were highlighted. It is worth noting that Gefyra is the concessional company behind Rion-Antirion bridge (3KM) that connects Athens to the mainland of Europe. The project holds 9 international awards, as well as world records (the longest multi-span cable stayed bridge of the world with its 2,252 meters continuous and fully suspended deck, the world’s largest bridge foundations). Moreover, it exists in a high seismic region thus, making its operation as an environmentally challenging mission! The management team was up and managed to highly reduce its operational GHG emissions, on yearly basis, since 2015.
Very well done Gefyra's team! Great achievements and future reduction plans!!

COP26, the UN’s annual climate summit which kicks off in Glasgow this weekend, marks the most important climate talks since the Paris agreement was signed in 2015.

Back then countries committed to keeping global warming to “well below” 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and preferably to 1.5°C.

By now, all countries are supposed to have announced tough new targets for reducing emissions. Rich countries are supposed to be helping poor ones finance green schemes.

On both fronts, the world is coming up short.

As this chart shows, pledges made by the middle of this year give a 50% chance of keeping warming below 2.1°C but only a 5% chance of it staying under 1.5°C—and that’s if they are actually honoured.
