Strengthening UAE–Sri Lanka Investment Partnerships 🇦🇪🇱🇰

Mr. Kamal Abeysinghe, Board Director of the Sri Lankan Bankers Association UAE (SLBA-UAE), led a delegation of UAE-based investors to Sri Lanka to pursue three proposed initiatives with a potential collective investment value of approximately USD 100 million:

• UAE–Sri Lanka High-Tech Agriculture & Food Security Initiative
• Green River Direct Foodstuff Trade Partnership
• Sri Lanka Skilled Foreign Employment Initiative, including an International Skilled Workforce Training & Assessment College

The delegation comprised:
• Dr. Nasser Ali, Chairman / Managing Director, AYAT Holdings
• Mr. Mahmoud Jasem Abdulla Al Ali, Deputy General Manager, Engineering Office of Sheikh Mansour Al Nahyan, and Chief Operating Officer, United National Holding
• Mr. Saeed Al Hinaai, Chief Executive Officer, HSH Real Estate
• Mr. Imad Abed Alhadi, Chief Executive Officer, Green River Foodstuff Trading LLC

The meetings on 24 September 2026, facilitated by Hon. Consul General Alexi Gunasekara & Consulate of Dubai & Northern Emirates, included engagements with Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Hon. Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, exploring opportunities to strengthen investment, exports and skilled employment.

SLBA-UAE was also honoured that Mr. Abeysinghe had the privilege of presenting physical copies of “PULSE,” our inaugural newsletter, to Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister.

*SLBA-UAE Presents Inaugural ‘PULSE’ Newsletter to CBSL Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe*
We are pleased to share encouraging updates from our recent engagements with the UAE banking community.

On 23rd January 2026, SLBA-UAE organised the FIG Forum, which included a bilateral meeting with the Group Head of Financial Institutions at Emirates NBD (ENBD). During this important session, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), delivered a comprehensive presentation on Sri Lanka’s economic recovery path to senior officials from many leading banks in the UAE.

The presentation has been well received. Positive updates continue to reach us from several UAE banks. Many have already initiated the necessary internal approvals to open Credit Lines. Notably, one leading bank has confirmed the establishment of Trade Lines — a tangible and welcome development that reflects growing confidence in Sri Lanka’s economic progress.

Further strengthening this collaboration, SLBA-UAE presented the copy of its inaugural newsletter “PULSE” to CBSL Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe during a recent visit to Sri Lanka. Mr. Kapila Karunaratne, Vice President of SLBA-UAE, represented the association on this occasion and extended a warm invitation to the Governor to conduct another briefing for banks in the UAE during the fourth quarter of 2026.

These interactions highlight the valuable role SLBA-UAE continues to play in building bridges between the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the UAE banking fraternity. Through consistent dialogue, knowledge sharing, and networking, we are supporting Sri Lanka’s economic recovery while creating meaningful opportunities for our members.

We sincerely thank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe for his insightful presentation and look forward to welcoming him again later this year for the proposed follow-up session.

The 2nd Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lankan Bankers Association (SLBA) UAE was a memorable evening that celebrated the Association’s achievements over the past year while setting the stage for an exciting future.

A key highlight of the AGM was the insightful presentation on “Frontier Technologies in Advanced Cash Management Solutions” delivered by Ms. Finali Fernando. Her engaging presentation provided valuable insights into how emerging technologies are transforming the banking landscape, enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening security, and elevating customer experiences. The session reinforced the importance of embracing innovation as financial institutions navigate an increasingly digital future.

The AGM also marked two significant milestones for the Association with the launch of the inaugural SLBA Newsletter and the official SLBA Website important initiatives that will further strengthen communication, member engagement, and knowledge sharing within the Sri Lankan banking community in the UAE.

The evening concluded with meaningful discussions on future plans, recognizing the contributions of members and volunteers, and reaffirming SLBA’s commitment to fostering professional development, collaboration, and excellence within the banking sector.
