7 habits of effective tax payers
End consumers bear the brunt of VAT, whether you shop at the local grocery or go to a multi brand outlet. Here's your pocket checklist to make sure you are on the right side of law:
1. Make sure that you get tax receipt, which clearly mentions the Tax Registration Number of the supplier, to ensure the due tax reaches the Government entities.
2. Tax rate for most commodities is 5%. However sugary, soft drinks, to***co products are likely to cost more that the standard VAT rate.
3. Residential rentals are zero rated. In case you are renewing your rent agreement, keep this in your mind. Residential tenants’ leases will not be taxed, but commercial tenants can expect to pay VAT.
4. Healthcare services, education services, certain precious metals are all zero rated for VAT. ("conditions apply" as always)
5. TRN number mentioned in the bills furnished can be verified @ "https://lnkd.in/fFR8Nhg".Hence, no leeway for a fraudulent TRN number
6. If a goods supplier is in one of those Designated Zones as specified by FTA, he cannot charge VAT for the supplies he makes.
7. Finally, yet importantly, price displayed on the shelves. Any such prices displayed has to be inclusive of VAT. What you see is what you pay!!
