😢 A Missouri grandmother was shot and killed while sitting in a car with her grandson after the pair accidentally backed into a neighbor’s vehicle outside her home.

Police say 32-year-old Jamal Jones shot 55-year-old Shirley Johnson on March 31 in St. Louis.

According to investigators, Johnson was sitting in the car with her grandson, Markel McCurry, when their vehicle accidentally backed into Jones’ car.

McCurry told police he got out to apologize and offer to pay for the damage. While he was speaking with Jones, investigators say Jones opened fire into the car. One of the bullets struck Johnson in the back. 🚗💥🔫

Johnson was rushed to a hospital but later died from her injuries.

McCurry said he did not realize at first that his grandmother had been hit. He later told reporters he saw blood and went into shock.

“She meant everything to me,” McCurry said. “She was my best friend.” 💔

According to court documents, Jones admitted to firing the shot and allegedly told police he wanted to “intimidate” McCurry after the vehicle hit his car. Police also say Jones told investigators, “If anything, I would have rather shot him than her.”

Jones has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and assault. He remains in custody awaiting a bond hearing.

TSA officers are resigning during the ongoing partial government shutdown, according to DHS reports.

TSA employees have now gone without two paychecks, marking the second time in less than six months they’ve been required to work without pay.

The staffing shortages are already showing up as longer security lines and operational strain at airports nationwide. In response, Atlanta has stepped in to offer free parking and meals to
their TSA employees during the shutdown.

TSA leadership warns that rising absenteeism could seriously disrupt airport operations—and a Trump administration official has acknowledged that airport closures are a real possibility if the shutdown continues.
