It is said that pure water is nature’s first and foremost medicine. In rural Afghanistan, it’s one of the hardest resources to secure.

For WASH Officer Fahimkhan Farzan, ensuring remote communities have safe, reliable water access is a daily mission. With a background in WASH engineering, Fahimkhan supervises water system installation, solves on-site technical problems and monitors water quality.

“Through my work, I want to improve public health, reduce waterborne [diseases and improve] local capacity for managing water systems,” he says. “I enjoy my job because it helps people and improves public health.”

Despite travelling long distances and resolving engineering problems with limited resources, seeing the impact of his work is all the motivation Fahimkhan needs.

“One unforgettable moment was when a remote community received clean drinking water for the first time,” he recalls. “Seeing the happiness of families and children made me realise the true impact of my work. That experience strengthened my commitment to serve vulnerable communities.”

What’s in a name?

For us at CTG, our name is our ethos.

Because when clients entrust us with part of their programme delivery, they are also entrusting us with their standards.

That responsibility shapes how we recruit, manage and support people, how we approach Duty of Care, and how we make decisions in fragile and conflict-affected environments.

Our ethical and governance frameworks draw on the UN Global Compact, the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals.

We focus particularly on SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

These commitments help us give clients the operational capacity they need while maintaining clear standards around accountability, responsible employment, safeguarding and local impact.

Committed to Good – it's not just our name.

Funding isn’t the only shortage in the humanitarian and development sector. It's facing a growing trust deficit too.

This was the common theme on day four of the United Nations General Assembly, where our Commercial Director, Socorro Torres-Duarte, joined panels on how the sector can rebuild trust.

Restoring credibility means proving impact at every level. Organisations and governments across the sector must commit to radical transparency, closing the data gap that is currently eroding confidence and undermining global cooperation.

At CTG, we’ve built transparency into our systems from day one. Our bespoke management software, Tayo, makes complete records and audit-ready data available in real time, upholding accountability even in the world’s most complex environments.

From poverty to landmines, our discussions on day two of the United Nations General Assembly focused on how business can help solve humanitarian crises.

With traditional donor aid shrinking, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s Melinda Bohannon emphasised that the future of development cooperation rests on three pillars:

- Official development assistance wherever possible
- Risk-sharing in emerging markets
- Private capital that builds infrastructure and drives economic progress

In a session particularly relevant in today’s climate, Julius Van der Walt from United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) stressed that conflict reverses development gains, while unexploded ordnance halts progress for decades after fighting ends – yet global commitment to mine-ban treaties is dangerously eroding just as new weapon technologies emerge.

On the ground for UNGA, our Commercial Director, Socorro Torres-Duarte, also met Goodwill Ambassador for IOM - UN Migration Pritika Swarup following her inspiring session on women’s empowerment, representation and the power of using your platform for meaningful change.

Humanitarian and development work is being reimagined – and the private sector is no longer watching from the sidelines.

That’s why our Commercial Director, Socorro Torres-Duarte, is landing in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly. During the summit, she’ll be diving into crucial conversations around international cross-sector partnerships, global resilience strategies and the role of business in fighting poverty.

These aren't abstract concepts to CTG. With our Commercial Director on the ground and our senior management paying close attention, we look forward to exploring innovative ways to drive sustainable progress and Shared Value throughout our global operations.

If you're in NYC for the summit, look out for Socorro and say hi – we'd love to connect.

For Enumerator Zalmay Yusofi, the hardest work often happens before the assessment even starts.

Zalmay’s role is critical: conducting village-level assessments by engaging with community members and leaders to uncover data that guides informed decision-making. But with long distances to travel through snow, mountains and unpaved roads, reaching the villages that need the most help is often his greatest challenge.

“One experience that had a lasting impact on me was visiting a remote village during the winter,” says Zalmay. The roads were inaccessible, and he had to travel part of the journey by motorcycle and then continue on foot.

“When I arrived, I met families who were facing severe challenges due to climate conditions, limited resources and a lack of access to safe drinking water,” he says.

Despite the hardships they faced, the villagers were happy to see Zalmay and hopeful that he would help them access the services they deserved.

“That moment reminded me why accurate data collection and fieldwork are so important,” he says. “It strengthened my commitment to ensuring that vulnerable communities are properly represented and that their needs are communicated clearly to decision-makers.”

From zero to operational in under a month – CTG’s Haiti launch is a testament to agility, partnership and collaboration.

In July, we took over critical operations in Haiti for two major clients, including a contract for airport ground handling services and another for fleet management. As these projects were already in motion, there was no room for error. Thanks to CTG’s quality frameworks, rapid setup and deployment experience, and close collaboration with local partners, we went from contract to deployment in just 10 days – with no gaps or delays.

Now, we are operational and self-sufficient on the ground in Haiti.
Our in-country progress was confirmed by CTG’s Muzafar Kaemdin, who visited our Haiti operations to align our teams for the road ahead and meet with local and international partners and clients.

We’d like to thank our airport ground handling partner, JCI, for their operational excellence and our clients for their collaboration. Together, we’re building continuity and ensuring critical operations are delivered with the quality and impact needed in Haiti.

We look forward to continuing to build local capacity and support Haiti’s recovery and development goals.
