There’s a quiet crisis happening inside organizations — not loud enough to make headlines, but powerful enough to reshape economies.

And it’s not AI.

According to Gallup’s 2026 global data, only 20% of employees worldwide are engaged at work (14% in MENA), the lowest level since 2020. (Gallup State of the Global Workplace 2026)

That means 80% of the world’s workforce is either checked out or actively working against the organization’s goals.

In fact, 64% are not engaged and 16% are actively disengaged — meaning they’re psychologically disconnected and may even be undermining their colleagues’ efforts.

And the cost?

A staggering $10 trillion in lost productivity every year — roughly 9% of global GDP evaporating because people don’t feel connected to their work.

Imagine losing nearly a tenth of the world’s economic output… not because of recessions, wars, or disasters — but because people feel unseen, unsupported, or misaligned.
