The last few months have been tough for a lot of small businesses here in the UAE.

No matter how much of a brave face we all put on it, it’s been a genuinely difficult stretch and there are still challenges ahead. Recovery isn’t a quick fix. It’s a long journey that takes time resilience and patience.

As a small business ourselves, we’ve been doing everything we can to keep moving forward through the summer slowdown.

Now that everyone’s coming back and the new school year is around the corner, we’re hoping to see a bit of normality return.

I think it matters more than ever that small businesses support each other reaching out to our networks, backing each other, sharing work where we can. It’s something I’ve seen happen more and more, and it’s genuinely reassuring.

It also got me thinking about our own business. One thing that comes up a lot: “I didn’t realise you did that” or “I wasn’t aware you could do this.” Print is a hard industry to market, we do great work for great clients, but a lot of it never gets shown publicly. So consider this a bit of a reminder of what we actually do:

→ POS and point-of-marketing displays
→ Branded merchandise, water bottles, notebooks and more..
→ Apparel, embroidery and DTG/DTF printing
→ Wall graphics for offices, F&B and windows
→ Brochures, business cards and company profiles
→ Bids and tenders documentation
→ Packaging, including short-run boxes
→ Backdrops, flags, banners

Chances are, if it involves print, we’ve done it or we know someone who can.

We’re always upfront if something isn’t our specialty.

Supporting SMEs During Unusual Times

Running a small business is never easy but during periods of uncertainty, the challenges can multiply very quickly.

Across the UAE right now, many SME owners are navigating a landscape that feels more unpredictable than usual. As a service provider, and one that often sits towards the end of the production or delivery process, disruptions earlier in the chain inevitably flow down to us. Projects pause, timelines shift, and priorities change — creating additional hurdles that businesses like ours must constantly adapt to.

Despite this, what continues to stand out is the resilience of the business community here.

Many companies are pushing forward with their daily routines, doing their best to maintain momentum. At the same time, changes in working patterns — whether that’s remote work, hybrid setups, or families balancing home schooling, inevitably impact the rhythm of the market. For businesses that rely on a busy and active commercial environment, these shifts are felt across the board.

Like many SMEs in the UAE, we’ve already faced significant challenges over the years. Covid was undoubtedly one of the most difficult periods any business owner has had to navigate. While it’s still early to compare current circumstances to that period, what it did teach us is the importance of adaptability, community, and supporting one another through uncertain times.

My hope is that the situation improves quickly and that everyone can return to their normal routines safely and with confidence. When that happens, one thing that truly makes a difference is continued support for SMEs. These businesses form the backbone of the economy, and even small decisions, choosing to work with a local supplier, partner, or service provider, have a ripple effect that supports jobs, families, and communities.

We are incredibly fortunate to live and work in the UAE, a country where the leadership consistently prioritises the safety and wellbeing of its people. During challenging periods, that clarity, calm leadership, and commitment to protecting the community provides reassurance to businesses and residents alike.

To all the SME owners out there keep going. Your resilience, determination, and contribution to the economy matter more than ever.

And to everyone in the business community: continue to support local businesses whenever you can. It truly makes a difference.

The Power of Print in a World That Won’t Stop Selling

I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted by sales noise.

Last week alone I received 10 calls in one day trying to sell me property. Add to that the emails, WhatsApp messages, LinkedIn DMs and “quick follow-ups” it’s relentless.

Like most business owners, I can’t afford to ignore calls I don’t recognise… but equally, I’m becoming immune to them.

And that’s exactly the problem.

We’re living in a world where digital sales techniques are everywhere, which means they’re also increasingly ignored. We scroll. We skim. We delete. We forget.

Now don’t get me wrong social media is a powerful platform. I’m using it right now. But when everyone is shouting digitally, how do you actually stand out?

That’s where print quietly does what digital often can’t.

Print doesn’t interrupt.
Print doesn’t demand attention.
Print earns it.

Think about this for a moment:

If a client emails you to say “thanks for the great work”, you read it…and move on.

But if that same client sends you a handwritten card, it hits differently.

You know time and effort went into it.
You keep it.
You place it somewhere visible.
It becomes a conversation starter.

That’s not marketing that’s emotional connection.

Print is often dismissed as outdated because it’s “less measurable” than digital. But visibility, presence and memory are incredibly powerful metrics and print excels at all three.

In fact:

• People are far more likely to remember printed material
than digital ads
• Print creates higher levels of trust
• Physical media engages more of the brain, which leads
to stronger recall and emotional response

There’s a reason many major brands are re-investing in print as part of their marketing mix. Not to replace digital but to cut through it.

Because while people scroll past content every second of the day, a well-designed printed piece:
• Sits on a desk
• Lives in an office
• Gets passed around
• Stays visible long after a screen is switched off

Unless you’re creating something genuinely viral, ask yourself honestly:

👉 Are you engaging your audience or just adding to the noise?

Print doesn’t compete with digital.
It circumnavigates it.

And when done properly, it leaves a lasting impression long after the scrolling stops.
