Business in general and especially family businesses can go under for many reasons, including conflicts over money, nepotism leading to poor management, and infighting over the succession of power from one generation to the next. Regulating the family’s roles as shareholders, board members, and managers is essential because it can help avoid these pitfalls. After Arabtec Holding PJSC, my latest project was the Fakih IVF Group, one of the players in IVF in the UAE market, but now the leader in fertility treatment in the GCC Region. In two years I restructured the business, which started with one clinic, into the main provider of IVF services in the UAE, accounting for 30% market share, with revenues increasing by over 500%, with high net margins. Valuation for a possible disposal priced the business as one of the biggest deals in the region in 2015. Prime Strategy Consulting Group, my new consulting venture, is established to provide advice to small and medium size family owned or independent businesses, with the aim of improving their efficiency and their profits, increasing their value, or providing continuity or exit options to their owners, be it operational or financial restructuring, for growth, disposal, merger or preparation for an IPO.The services offered include:
