NODS Conducts Damage Assessment Training Using KoboToolbox
The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS), with support from the Surveys and Mapping Division, continues to advance the adoption of KoboToolbox as an efficient digital solution for conducting damage assessments.
The District Disaster Coordinators (DDCs) and their teams were involved in a one-day workshop today at the Department of Environment (DOE). The workshop forms part of NODS’s efforts to transition from traditional paper-based assessments to a faster, more accurate, digital system. KoboToolbox is a free, open-source platform that enables users to collect, manage, and visualize data, particularly in humanitarian emergencies, development projects, research, and remote or low-resource settings.
Through practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises, participants learned how to use KoboToolbox to gather, manage, and share disaster-related information. The training highlighted the importance of timely and reliable data in identifying urgent needs, coordinating relief efforts, and supporting effective disaster response and recovery.
NODS encouraged DDCs and their teams to embrace digital tools to strengthen communication, reporting, and coordination during emergencies. The initiative reinforces NODS’s commitment to building disaster management capacity and enhancing national resilience through modern technology.
