Konsiliare Dutch Caribbean once again organized a tough, detailed induction program for the new Saba Island Council members!
In my work at Bureau Konsiliare, I meet with various law makers, ministers, commissioners of the different islands to help them ease into the job and to gain full understanding of their role.
Konsiliare's main advantage: we'e seen the clouds from both sides, if you will, combining lengthy experience deep inside the workings of governmental The Hague, the former Netherlands Antilles, Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire.
The format works: The Hague decision-makers leave with a better understanding of the intricacies of policy making on our side, and the obstacles blocking sometimes obvious choices.
Conversely: our elected and executive officials are provided with detailed insight into the deeper working of the The Hague policy machinery.
But as a good counselor, I can separate my "hats". I love working with Island Councils.
I was honoured to receive the newly elected members of the Saba Island Council on Bonaire for the third time, for a few days of activities that were aimed at empowering them as a body of government and equipping them with the tools they need to hold power to account and to do right by those elected them: the people of Saba.
That's Konsiliare's biggest advantage: we built our track-reckord on both sides of the ocean, both in governemental The Hague but also here onnoir island, in the places were the real decisions are made.
