The Catholic history of Chaco Province tells the story of frontier missions, territorial expansion, immigrant colonies, and the gradual growth of parish life across one of Argentina’s most complex regions. Beginning with the Jesuit mission of San Fernando del Río Negro in 1750, this new Parish Lineage Chart traces the historical development of important ecclesiastical centers before 1930, including Resistencia, Villa Ángela, Puerto Tirol, Charata, Las Palmas, and the western mission frontier.
For genealogists researching Chaco, understanding parish jurisdictions can be the difference between finding a family record or searching in the wrong archive entirely. This chart was designed to help researchers better understand where sacramental records originated and how the province’s early church structure expanded over time.
