Much to our regret we had to hear that Roger Tsien, one of the most outstanding scientist of our time and Nobel Prize winner 2008, died on August 24. Tsien was a brilliant UC San Diego researcher and the father of fura-2 and initiator of FP-containing fluorescence sensors and although being a real genius that brake new grounds not only in fluorescence research but also cell biology and cancer research, he was a modest friendly person that was open to every science discussion. He truly was ahead of all of us and he will be sorely missed as scientist for his revolutionary spirit that inspired several generations of scientist. With his death we lost one of the most shining personality in our science.
He will not be forgotten and we stay thankfully and deeply indebted to this brilliant genius and great man.
