Autonomous systems operating in off-road environments face challenges far beyond those encountered on public roads.

Whether in defense, mining, or agriculture, success is not defined by algorithms alone – it is defined by trust.

This week, AVL is hosting the INTACT consortium at our headquarters in Graz, bringing together partners to advance cybersecurity across the IoT-to-Cloud continuum.

As vehicles become increasingly connected, cybersecurity in the automotive domain continues to grow in importance ‒ spanning both cyber and physical attack vectors.

During the plenary sessions, discussions focus on the latest progress in end-to-end cybersecurity tools and services, including:
• Digital twinning
• Predictive cybersecurity sensing
• Automated security testing
• Digital Twinning with Hardware Security Modules
• Progress towards KPIs
• Progress in Pilot Use Cases

A key emphasis lies on how these technologies are evolving and being applied across domains such as critical infrastructure and the automotive supply chain, where secure integration is becoming ever more critical.

𝗔 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲’𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 – 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽

After 47 years at the helm: Helmut List hands over operational leadership and assumes the chairmanship of the Supervisory Board.

Over nearly five decades, AVL - which emerged from a research and development environment and is defined by innovation as part of its corporate DNA - has evolved into a leading global technology partner for sustainable mobility solutions.

“For me, this transition is a deliberate next step. At the same time, now is the right moment to make room for new perspectives in operational leadership,” says Prof. List.

Lukas Walter, the incoming CEO, has played a key role in shaping AVL for years and has actively driven the company’s transformation. With his experience, international perspective, and close ties to the company, he embodies continuity—and at the same time, new momentum.

“AVL is characterized by a pioneering spirit and the ambition to think mobility through from a technological perspective. We will consistently continue on this path,” said Walter. “Together with our employees, we will set new directions and actively help shape the transformation of mobility.”

The transition will be seamless. The direction is clear.

And perhaps that is precisely the strongest signal:
That change succeeds best when it is built on a strong foundation.

Software-defined vehicles (SDVs) are fundamentally reshaping how vehicles are developed, tested, and validated. As software increasingly defines vehicle functionality, traditional hardware-focused development approaches are reaching their limits.

Modern vehicles combine highly interconnected E/E architectures, powerful computing platforms, battery systems and continuous software updates – creating entirely new requirements for validation and testing. Development teams are facing growing complexity while development cycles continue to accelerate.

To keep pace, development strategies are shifting:
▪️ From hardware-centric to software-driven validation
▪️ From late-stage testing to digital-first approaches
▪️ From isolated functions to continuously evolving vehicle ecosystems
▪️ From physical-only validation to virtual calibration and simulation-supported testing

As part of the official visit of a high-level delegation from Styria, Austria, led by Governor Mario Kunasek and Deputy Governor Manuela Khom, and joined by Austrian Ambassador to China Wolf Dietrich Heim, AVL China had the honor of hosting the "𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼 – 𝗔𝗩𝗟 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺" at its Shanghai Technical Center.

The event provided a comprehensive view of AVL China's locally built ecosystem and its capability to integrate customers and partners into a collaborative innovation framework.

Together with key customers CHERY, DAAE, as well as partners Jabil, VCARSYSTEM, and Horizon Robotics, our site in China presented an integrated view of next-generation mobility solutions: spanning hardware, software, and system-level engineering.

The presence of both senior management and engineering teams across all participating organizations highlighted a shared commitment to cross-domain collaboration and effective ex*****on in complex project environments.

The showcase reflected our core capabilities in thermal management, powertrain, ADAS, vehicle motion control (VMC), and CAE and once again demonstrated AVL China's strong local ex*****on capabilities and its role as a bridge between global expertise and China's dynamic innovation landscape.

More than just a technology presentation, it was a reflection of our ability to coordinate complex ecosystems and enable collaborative innovation on a large scale.

Im Rahmen der Lange Nacht der Forschung durften wir rund 𝟲𝟱𝟬 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗲 𝗚ä𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘇 𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟱𝟬 𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘆𝗿 bei AVL begrüßen.

Unsere voll ausgebuchten Touren durch das Battery Innovation Center, Powertrain Competence Center sowie unseren Akustikrollenprüfstand und Demo Cars ermöglichten erstmals exklusive Einblicke in die zentralen Entwicklungsbereiche und machten erlebbar, woran unsere Teams täglich arbeiten.

Besonders wertvoll: der direkte Austausch zwischen unseren Expert:innen und den zahlreichen neugierigen Besucher:innen, der geprägt war von spannenden Fragen und echter Begeisterung für Technologie.

That's exactly the challenge at the heart of the CoGNETs (Continuums of Game NETs) project.

By enabling coordinated decision‑making across the cloud continuum, CoGNETs allows computing and control functions - such as intelligent thermal management - to dynamically adapt to changing operational conditions, resource availability, and security constraints.
This continuum‑based, distributed approach demonstrates how cognitive computing concepts can be applied to achieve secure, energy‑aware, and scalable system operation, with relevance for mobility and industrial applications. 🚗🏭

We are happy to share progress from the EU-Japan CoGNETs consortium, shaping the foundations of intelligent, connected infrastructures.
