Are you kidding me? We got nicely into the Salon both Pinot Noirs 🤓Youthful sexy Pinot Noir and its little brother the classic “geile trinkfluss” both into Salon 😇

Blaugurgunder (AT), Clevner (CH), Blauer Spätburgunder (DE), Pinot Noir (FR), Pinot Nero (IT) “geile trinkfluss”

As like the previous tasted Pinot Noir, Müllers Nussberg 2016, the Classic version of Pinot Noir of the Müllers House, Blauburgunder Klassisch 2016, presents lovely brilliance and purity of colour, with a nice sexy carmine red color and a purple tinge. Compared with the Reserved version in the nose presents some nice aromas of redcurrant, wild rasp berry, and ripe cherries. The vegetative aromas are mainly tomatoe leaf. In the palate is a young wine with some very interesting sexiness; e.g. nice crispy acid and delicate aromas. There are no complexing characters of Oak present, making it a very nice summer wine and an amazing easy drinking feel (first thing came into my mind when tasting was “geile trinkfluss”.) It has a smooth sexy Burgundy-like texture, rounded and silky yet with good grip and long, sweet fruity finish. The wine has a nice bite, palate length and medium weight, so to say a lovely structured acid.

This Juicy Pinot Noir, can also take the tricky pairing ingredient, tomatoes. Like a casserole of rabbit stewed in tomatoes red peppers sauce on top of a creamy polenta. This wine pairs well with a mushrooms and wild porcini soufflé cutting out the creaminess with the acid and complementing the nice eartiness of the wild muschrooms with the fruit. What cheese and what bread?, on the cheese side you can go with a bit harder cheeses and higher acidity, like young Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Edam, Emmentaler or Gruyere, even a Manchego Curado and a bite lactic sour Tomme d’Alsace. Some nice sour dough dark breads, or a Artisan Baguette, and nice fresh tomatoes salad will match well also with this wine.

Enjoy the Tasting

Wine tasting Notes of Pinot Noir Müllers Nussberg 2016

Youthful sexy colour with a lovely tempting brilliance, medium deep ruby red, with a slightly purple tinge. In the Nose this wine is displaying a wonderful typical Pinot Noir pure and clean fruit. These red fruits are of quite brilliant character and complemented with herb notes. The herbaceous notes are tomatoes leaf, white pepper. The fruit aromas are very intense red cherry, wild raspberry, but also have some violet and floral notes. There is a clear mineral presence and some earthy notes like, slightly to***co box, ginger, and a tinge of liquorice roots. A really fine hint of new oak is present to complement the fruit.
In the palate: Fine spiciness of white pepper, and some ripe red wild berries and red cherry. Very fine oak treatment. It is still young, but will get nicely polished and round silky and very delicate during bottle aging. The wine has long lingering finish with a really delicate fruit and medium to light body; a real pleasure to drink.
This Youthful wine will be excellent for matching, with its hint of smoke and vanilla and the freshness of acidity, Roast chicken or Roast pork with herbs and fennel. It would also be excellent for reductive sauces for Roast Chicken and Pork. The earthiness will match with dishes with morels and wild mushrooms, like wild mushrooms Risotto. On the cheese side and bread side, I think it will match well with Sour dough bread and Brie and similar cheeses. Even will do well with Milder blue cheeses such as Gorgonzola dolce and charcuterie. Salads containing beetroot and fresh tomatoes have a fantastic matching power with this Pinot Noir.

Nice for complement to the sekt of pinot noir

Nice for complement to the sekt of pinot noir

Pinot Blanc Weißburgunder (Klevner) Mitterberg 2016

This is a more robust wine with nice yellow hay colour and involving brilliance, clarity and purity (hinting us again that the wine may have an interesting harmony on the acids). This wine also presents a lovely viscosity and dreaming tears by swirling (indicative that the wine has a higher alcohol with interesting viscosity). As compared with the lighter Pinot blanc Classic (Hungerberg) it presents lovely fruity characters like intense peach, green melon, and apples, but also the typical almond nut. This wine is a riper wine than the Classic version from the Hungerberg terroir. The Mittlerberg in Nussdorf has an interesting climate dominated with cool windy afternoons due to the proximity to the Danube River and its orientation to the cardinal points. The soils are a mixture of calcareous rocks, sand and lower amounts of clay with a very good water drainage. These soil characteristics and the use of a neutral yeast produced a wine with very interesting minerality that is noticeable in the nose. As complexing characters, to compensate with the fruit, there are notes of vanilla, mokka, bitter-chocolate, cinnamon and coconut (all these comes from the integration of nice toasted Oak treatment during the wine aging, yeah! A new barrel oak style pinot blanc, a very nice one indeed, sexy and modern style, a surprise to be seeing in Austria) and nutty flavors.

The wine in the palate presents a nice mixture of fruits, nutty and complexing oaky characters that harmonize nicely and don’t show-off (the oak treatment is not overpowering preserving the nice fruity characters). The wine nutty aromas are due to a long fine yeast contact during aging. The harmony of acid and sweetness from the alcohol (that again is not sharp) is nice, and as with classic Pinot Blanc, the wine has an interesting acid bite due not having gone into malolactic fermentation. This has preserved the nice primary fruity and delicate aromas of the wine. The tannin structure of the wine is smooth to silky, that invites to drink and eat. The palate fruit and flavor length is nice, not presenting much of a bitter character and with a very smooth and long finish. The wine presents a medium body to full body structure and weight in the palate.

Compared with the Hungerberg in Vienna (where vineyards are enclosed inside 19th district, between houses) the Nussberg terroir vineyards (a few Km north of Vienna facing the Danube River) preserves somewhat more the acids on the late harvested grapes. This gives the winemaker the opportunity of producing high ranking white wines with very long aging potential. This wine in its youth is vibrant and nice and will be expected to age to a nice complex wine still preserving fruity characters.

Pairing with food; as with the Pinot Noir, the wine will go well, with its hint of smoke and vanilla and the freshness of acidity, with Roast chicken or Roast pork with herbs and fennel. It would also be excellent for a Roast Pork accompanied with a reductive sauce made of Apple Most (Still Cider) and Liquor Wine of Pinot (a Mistella of PinoBlanc), pepper corns and refined with cream and on the side dish creamy mash potatoes. On the cheese side and bread side, I think it will match well with Sour dough bread and Brie and similar cheeses, but also goat and sheep cheeses will pair as well since rich, creamy cheeses blend seamlessly with buttery, oaky white wines, creating a truly harmonious palate sensation.

Looking forward for the new pinot blanc. Lovely wine

Looking forward for the new pinot blanc. Lovely wine

Pinot Blanc Weißburgunder (Klevner) Klassic -- Hungerberg

This nice classical lighter Pinot Blanc has a lovely and light lemon/lime colour with brilliant sexy reflexes. This brilliance will reflect on the harmony of the acid in the wine. The wine presents a lovely viscosity during swirling building nice “wine windows”. In the nose is a lovely mixture of tropical fruits like bananas and green mango and a citrus note as a bit of orange blossom. It also shows the sweetness of strong apples and a hint of peach. Further, also a distinctive almond aroma and the nuttiness that hints also to a long fine yeast contact of the wine after ferment.

In the palate the fruits present purity and harmony to the nose characters. The sweetness harmonizes superbly with the lovely animating stimulating fresh structural acid. The sweetness is a nice mixture of the level of alcohol (but not being sharp), some glycerin and very little residual sugar. So to say, the wine is dry but tastes extract sweetness. The nice crisp acid bite is the result of not allowing a malolactic fermentation to occur after primary fermentation and giving an interesting bite back of the wine and then preserving the fine primary fruit aromas. It has a long lingering after taste of green apples and nuts.

In spring this wine will pair nicely with asparagus risotto or a lovely asparagus – smoked salmon quiche that will pair with the nuttiness of the wine. This wine is also a lovely friend for a sunny warm afternoon at the Terrace eating a carefully matched salad (the salad dressing has to match the bite of the wine) or quiche. But pairs nicely with salty pretzels, but its big brother, the Pinot Blanc Mitterberg, will do amazingly with pop-corn in Summer (give them a try).

The Müllers Sekt of Pinot Noir Nussberg

This sparkling brut of Pinot Noir (Blaugurgunder (AT), Clevner (CH), Blauer Spätburgunder (DE), Pinot Noir (FR), Pinot Nero (IT)) has a vibrant sexy carmine red hue with purpure tinge. In the nose presents nice aromas of redcurrant, wild raspberry, strawberry and ripe cherries. There are some vegetative notes of tomatoe leaf. In the palate presets nice voluminous mousse and silky texture, also some minerality is present and very nice slightly nuttiness from the long yeast contact after the secondary fermentation in the bottle. The harmony of the sweetnes from alcohol, residual sugar is perfectly balanced with the acids and nice tannin structure.
The nice acidity pairs perfectly with rich dishes and salads. The wine is perfect also for celebrations and sitting relaxing in a summer day at the terrace. This wine is a versatile partner for canapés, sea food dishes, fresh summer fruits (acid balance). On the bread side roasted garlic crushed on top of a rustic bread toast and accompanied with a nice young Crottin de Coviagnal cheese (a cheese from Sanserre; a highly structured goat cheese) will match perfectly the wine. Other cheeses that will match with the wine, would be Brie and a young Chaource (classical cheeses from Champagne region).
In the meat side a duck with raspberries goes fantastically well with Pinot Noir, the duck fat needs this acidity of this wine and the ample fruit. Desserts are always not easy with wines, but a wine will pair very well with the texture and flavors of a strawberry soufflé with sliced strawberries. Further, this berry centric wine will pair nicely also with a rhubarb berries tart.
A pretty amassing party wine.
Enjoy the Tasting

The Müllers liquour Wine (Likörwein), what a nice Surprise a Mistela from Grinzing, Vienna (for Summer coctails with the Likörwein look the comments)
The Müllers liquor wine is a mistela (mistelle) wine of pinot blanc and brandy spirit. This kind of wine belongs to the category of vin de Liquer made by the Mutage method. Mutage is the art of mixing Brandy spirit into grape juice to make vin de Liqueur. This alcohol addition stops any further fermentation of the juice and produces a wine with nice fruit and high alcohol (between 17% and 22%) and very high natural sugar content. Further if the wine is aged in contact with wood for several years (new french barrique the preferred method) takes the characteristics of the well known mistelles from france like Pineau des Charentes. Müllers liquor wine is an elegant wine aged in barrel, with lovely gold color, nice lovely fruit aromas and elegant vanilla and toasting aromas.
On the eye, the wine is gold brilliant with nice reflexes and nice heavy viscosity letting us know about its sugar and alcohol content. In the nose is a distinctive aroma of green walnuts and almonds, with green apples and wild white flowers with some tropical notes. Some very mild and interesting complexing characters are also present, some vanilla from the oak, chocolate, to***co and leader box. All these characters are harmonizing and invite to drink. In the mouth presents the sweetness of the juice and alcohol, but not being the wine sharp. Also has allot of its primary fruit flavours. The harmony of the acid is perfectly matched with the sweetness and fruits. This sweetness then is not overpowering and reflects on a very long palate. The palate finish is in the way of honey or maple syrup toasting aromas and apples.
The wine pairs nicely with blue cheeses where the sweetnees of the wine balances the bold flavours and savory body. Cheeses like Gorgonzola, Roquefort, and bleu d'Auvergne blue cheeses match perfectly well with this mistela. This wines are also nice as Aperitif.

Cheers

A Google search for the exact phrase “wines are made in the vineyard” produced 40,600 results, making it one of the industry’s mantras, along with “our Chardonnay is buttery” and “I thought we’d be cash-flow positive by now.” All overused, yet accurate.
