Ready for an experiment?

Okay, here we go:
Take a moment and think about
Which material resource is the most important for the company in which you are currently employed?

Is it water? Electricity? Metal? Natural gas? Wood?......
Found it?

Good, now ask yourself: What would happen to your team, your company, if this very resource were no longer available tomorrow? And what contribution are you making today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow to mitigate that risk?

Fortunately, it doesn't look like the world will end tomorrow ;) However, questions like these bring us right into the middle of a kind of responsibility that should urgently be given more importance in the coming years: How do we ensure that we inhabit the planet in a way that keeps it livable, fair and sustainable for all life on it?
What are your thoughts?

“- Ferdinand, in your plays, you balance fantastical elements with deep moral lessons.

- How do you lead your creative process when crafting stories that captivate and teach at the same time?

- How do you view your role as a leader in shaping societal attitudes through your art?

- How do you inspire your actors to connect deeply with the messages of your plays?" — these questions I would ask Ferdinand Raimund, who was a fascinating figure in Austrian theater, blending fantasy and realism in ways that captured the imagination of Viennese audiences.

Raimund was a pioneer of the Biedermeier era in Austrian drama, known for his unique mix of romanticism, humor, and moral lessons. His plays often featured fantastical elements, like fairies, spirits, and magical creatures, set against realistic depictions of everyday people.

This combination of fantasy and down-to-earth characters made his stories captivating and helped lay the foundation for Vienna's rich tradition of popular theatrical entertainment.

Imagine sitting down with Ferdinand Raimund, the legendary Austrian playwright.
What questions would you ask? Would you be up to jumping in the past and talking with world-known people so far?

There is a (rather) new word in the leadership corridors and it’s: ESG. You've probably heard of it too, right?

And it's not just the new CSDR EU regulation that is pushing the term to the center of corporate practice. It can also make more than sense from a human perspective to deal with it right now, because:

In my perception, more and more responsible managers, but also ambitious and passionate employees - who may or may not belong to Generation X, Y or Z - are demanding that we treat our planet responsibly and that their work is connected to a greater purpose.

And here comes ESG: It’s one way of approaching these questions (and complying to future regulations).

What is it like in your company? How long have you been talking about ESG? What is your situation right now?

And: If you want to talk about it in more depth, the Think Beyond Research department is currently working on a survey about ESG practices, opportunities and challenges in companies. And we would be very happy to have YOUR voice in it. Please get in touch if you are interested.

"The most difficult times in our lives are the best opportunities to develop inner strength."

I would say, it’s the right time to develop your resilience skills.

Resilience refers to the ability to bounce back or recover quickly from difficulties and challenges, which can be developed over time.

Some simple but useful techniques:

1. Do your regular routine even more. What does it mean so far?
If you do sport 2 times per week, do it 3 times now. Challenges are stressful both for our mental and physical health. Supporting our regular schedule, our brain “knows” what will be next and receives less of uncertainty-

2. Positive thinking. Try various techniques to develop it. For instance, gratefulness journaling.

3. Ask for help. Trying to always be strong, we sometimes forget about the powerful resources of our surroundings. Ask for help if needed (your friends, colleagues, family or experts— depending on the situation)

What else would you add? How did you manage to develop your resilience skills?

Stress management is critical to maintaining productivity and overall well-being.

One key player in the stress response is cortisol, a hormone that, when balanced, supports optimal performance. However, elevated cortisol levels can negatively impact productivity and health.

The Impact of Cortisol on Productivity and Stress:

Cortisol, often referred to as the "stress hormone," plays a significant role in how our bodies respond to stress:

Productivity: Moderate levels of cortisol can enhance alertness and focus, improving productivity.
Stress: Elevated cortisol is linked to increased stress and anxiety. Chronic high levels can lead to burnout, reduced cognitive function, and decreased efficiency.

Here are some techniques for managing cortisol levels:

⏰Time Management
Prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and take regular breaks to avoid burnout. Effective time management can reduce work-related stress and help maintain balanced cortisol levels.

🌙Deep Breathing Exercises
Practicing deep breathing exercises, such as diaphragmatic breathing, can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and cortisol production.

🧠Basics: keep healthy nutrition, move enough and get a good sleep;)

"Don’t take life so seriously. It’s not like you are going to get out alive." 🌀

This quote is a gentle reminder that while life comes with its challenges, maintaining a sense of humor and lightness can make the journey more enjoyable.

As leaders, we often face high-pressure situations and tough decisions.

However, integrating a bit of humor and not taking ourselves too seriously can:

Boost Team Morale: A leader who can laugh at themselves and find joy in the little things creates a positive and resilient team culture.
Foster Creativity: A relaxed environment encourages out-of-the-box thinking and innovative solutions.
Strengthen Relationships: Light-hearted interactions build stronger, more authentic connections with team members.

So, next time you’re facing a tough situation, remember to smile, laugh, and enjoy the ride. Use positivism to charge a bit your batteries;)
After all, a goal is not just about the destination, but also about how we get there.

Ever wondered why some days you're in the zone, and other days it's a struggle to stay focused? The answer is in our body

How can different hormones influence our work life?🧬

1. Cortisol: Often known as the stress hormone, cortisol helps us manage stress. Moderate levels can boost alertness and productivity, but chronic high levels can lead to burnout and anxiety. 🕰️

2. Dopamine: This "feel-good" hormone plays a key role in motivation and reward. High dopamine levels can enhance focus, drive, and creativity, making us more productive and innovative. 🎨

3. Oxytocin: Known as the "bonding hormone," oxytocin fosters trust and teamwork.🤝

4. Serotonin influences mood and emotional stability. Higher serotonin levels can improve our overall well-being.😊

5. Melatonin: Our sleep-wake cycle regulator. Proper melatonin levels ensure we get quality sleep, which is crucial for cognitive function and memory.💤

6. Adrenaline prepares our body for "fight or flight." It can provide short bursts of energy and focus in high-pressure situations but can be draining if experienced too often. ⚡

Understanding the role of these hormones can help us create healthier work habits, improve workplace environments, and enhance our overall productivity and well-being.

Reflect for a moment, do you receive enough positive energy to fuel your hormones?

What activities can RECHARGE your body and mind? How often do you plan such things? What can you add or delete from your schedule to make the best every day?

"You cannot think negatively and expect positive outcomes."

Our mindset shapes our reality. Let’s think about it from another perspective.

If we plant seeds of cucumber, we can’t become a banana.
The same with our regular thoughts, agree?;)
If we plant seeds of negativity, we can't hope to have positivity and success around us.

Few inspirational tips for daily implementation:

✅ Focus on Positive Thoughts:

Start each day with gratitude.
Surround yourself with uplifting people, who give (and not take) your energy.

🔄 Change Your Perspective:
See challenges as opportunities for growth.
Embrace failures as lessons learned.

Reminder:
Small steps MAKE a big difference. Especially, when we talk about new habits that influence both personal and work life.

3 Mottos that support me every day:

Stay curious. Your people are likely to have more skills than you think.

Stay humorous. Creative solutions often spring from humor.

Stay serene. Business is important, but there are more
important things in life.

Happy to work together with Isabelle Duquesne, CEO EUROBOGEN, partner of Think Beyond and Marion Mihatsch, who obviously live such values while at the office!

Remind yourself today about WHAT is really essential to you.

Review ALL your projects/tasks and answer this question:
Does this project/task go together with my motto?
