Starting today, TruSat is officially an independent, volunteer-led open-source project. To learn more about TruSat's transition into a fully independent project, read the TruSat Declaration of Independence: https://learn.trusat.org/docs/trusat-independence/

The TruSat community needs your help as we embark on this new chapter! There are three easy ways to get involved:

1. Submit Observations 🛰
2. Contribute Code đŸ’»
3. Support The Community 📄

We invite you to join us and develop TruSat into a valuable tool for preserving the long-term sustainability of spaceflight by visiting https://learn.trusat.org

We’re excited to announce that the TruSat platform is now open to all!

Here are the updates we've made to ease the process of contributing to our space sustainability mission:

1. Anyone can now sign up (https://trusat.org/signup) to be an observer in the system
2. The process of submitting observations is now simpler with this form (https://trusat.org/submit/single).
3. Observers can register multiple station locations for observing, such as your backyard vs. your local park
4. We’ve begun collecting satellite-tracking tutorials in our recently launched Learning Hub (https://learn.trusat.org).

For those of you looking for new ways to spend time at home, we hope you’ll consider contributing to our mission. And if you’re looking to sharpen your coding skills, follow us on Github (https://github.com/trusat) and check out the list of open issues.

"The prospect of so-called ‘mega constellations’ causing a potential 10 to 25-fold increase in the number of low Earth satellites is raising public awareness and concern about the long-term sustainability of space activities. An innovative open source system called TruSat is creating new opportunities for concerned citizens around the world to be part of the solution."

“Imagine how dangerous sailing the high seas would be if all the ships ever lost in history were still drifting on top of the water,” ESA Director General Jan Wörner said in the release. “That is the current situation in orbit, and it cannot be allowed to continue.”

The first ever space mission to remove man-made debris from Earth’s orbit is due to launch in 2025 as part of an initiative that could herald the cleanup of more than 3,000 defunct satellites.

Who got a chance to spot some of the satellited from SpaceX's recent Starlink launch?

SpaceX launched 60 new satellites into orbit today (Nov. 11). Weather permitting, you just might be able to see the spacecraft swarm soar overhead in your night sky tonight.

"Unlike highways on earth, there are actually no space traffic rules. None whatsoever, OK? Wow. What could possibly go wrong with that?"

We at TruSat have our own ideas on how to address this issue, but we would love to hear yours! Share your thoughts in the comments 🛰

"Most of what we send into outer space never comes back," says astrodynamicist and TED Fellow Moriba Jah. In this forward-thinking talk, Jah describes the space highways orbiting earth and how they're mostly populated by space junk. Learn more about his quest to develop and scale the world's first c...
