Let's Talk About Tech #72: Regulated Crypto Banking, Custody And MiCA

In the latest episode of Let's Talk About Tech, recorded live at Vienna Blockchain Week 2026, host Philipp Sakuler sits down with Peter Stolcz, Director of B2B Sales at AMINA Bank, to look at what regulated crypto banking actually involves once the service list stops being a differentiator.

They discuss how the conversation with financial institutions has shifted since 2020, when banks would not open an account for a crypto company at all. Stolcz explains what separates AMINA's Swiss banking entity from its MiCA-licensed Austrian subsidiary and why Austria became the entry point for the first crypto banking group to hold a MiCA CASP licence in Europe.

Furthermore, he highlights the two most underestimated things in the digital asset space and why settlement design and business continuity matter more than the product list.

📊 Investor reporting should be more than a monthly update. It should be a relationship-building tool.

Closing an investment round is only the beginning of the startup-investor relationship.

Consistent and transparent reporting keeps investors informed, builds trust and, importantly, gives them opportunities to actively support the company.
A strong investor update should provide a clear picture of:

→ Key figures & KPIs – revenue, growth, margins, burn rate, runway or other relevant metrics
→ Key developments – product progress, partnerships, customer wins and operational improvements
→ Upcoming priorities – what the team is focusing on next
→ Strategic initiatives – major projects and their expected impact
→ Challenges & learnings – what did not go as planned and how the team is responding
→ Specific asks – where investors can help with introductions, hiring, customers, partnerships or expertise

The last point is particularly important. Investors bring more than capital. Their networks and experience can become valuable resources, but founders need to actively engage them.

At Venionaire Capital, our CEO Berthold Baurek-Karlic takes this principle one step further: Startups should consider regular reporting not only to existing investors, but also to selected prospective investors.

Why?

Because fundraising should not start when the runway becomes short.
Keeping prospective investors informed allows them to follow the company’s progress over time. When the next funding round begins, the relationship already exists and the conversation does not start from zero.

💡 Good investor reporting combines performance, progress, outlook and actionable asks. Great investor reporting turns communication into long-term relationships.

Inside The World Of Digital Asset Investment Funds | Let's Talk About Tech #71

In the latest episode of Let's Talk About Tech, recorded live at Vienna Blockchain Week 2026, host Philipp Sakuler sits down with Maurice Mureau, Co-Founder and CEO of Hodl Group, to go inside the world of regulated digital asset investment funds.

Mureau breaks down why he left a five-star-rated traditional fund career for digital assets and shares his perspective on stablecoins in remittances, decentralization as an underrated feature and what the industry will realise it underestimated five years from now.

They also discuss why the allocator conversation has shifted from "is this even an asset class?" to "how much volatility do I want to own", how HODL's ZK Fund runs a market neutral strategy that does not depend on which way the market moves, why the equity-to-token venture model faded and where custody still blocks institutional entry.

What does the next phase of crypto look like?

According to our CEO, Berthold Baurek-Karlic, the industry's biggest challenge today isn't regulation or market sentiment, but talent.

In previous bear markets, blockchain teams used the quieter periods to build.

Today, many of the world's top engineers are choosing AI over Web3, leaving even strong blockchain protocols struggling to attract and retain developers.

At the same time, Berthold believes the long-term outlook remains highly positive as blockchain technology becomes part of mainstream financial infrastructure through innovations such as on-chain KYC, 24/7 settlement, and increasing institutional adoption.

These insights stem from Berthold's conversation with Sven Wagenknecht, Editor-in-Chief of BTC-ECHO, during World Venture Forum 2026 in Kitzbühel. The interview has since been featured in two BTC ECHO articles covering the industry's current challenges and future opportunities.

Rather than focusing on Europe's traditional hubs, Berthold highlighted Brazil, Egypt, and Georgia as particularly attractive ecosystems due to their large addressable markets, strong developer talent, competitive cost structures, and favorable conditions for scaling innovative companies.

A big thank you to Sven and the BTC ECHO team for the insightful conversation.

Despite record venture capital deployment across Europe in Q2 2026, investor confidence remains fragile.

Our latest European Venture Sentiment Index (EVSI) reveals a market that is stabilising, but not yet recovering. While the EVSI outperformed expectations (4.8 vs. a projected 4.3), sentiment remains below neutral as investors continue to navigate macroeconomic uncertainty, constrained liquidity, and a challenging exit environment.

Some of the key takeaways from the report:

- European VC funding reached a record USD 29.0 billion, up 16.5% quarter-over-quarter.
- Investors are increasingly prioritising companies with strong technological or physical moats, shifting attention toward DeepTech, robotics, advanced manufacturing, and hardware.
- AI remains a dominant investment theme, but investors are becoming more selective, questioning whether startups are building lasting infrastructure or simply applications that could be replaced by foundation model providers.
- Fundraising conditions and liquidity constraints continue to weigh on the market, making disciplined ex*****on and resilient business models more important than ever.

As CEO Berthold Baurek-Karlic notes in this edition, the defining question for investors is no longer whether a company is efficient or differentiated, but whether its business model will remain defensible as the AI stack continues to evolve.

Crypto crime has evolved. So have the people fighting it.

In the latest episode of Let's Talk About Tech, our host Berthold Baurek-Karlic sits down with Albert Quehenberger, founder of AQ Forensics GmbH and Austria's first certified cryptocurrency forensic investigator, to explore how stolen digital assets are actually traced, frozen, and, in some cases, recovered.

Albert's journey began after losing six Bitcoin himself. When authorities dismissed cryptocurrency as "only for criminals," he decided to learn blockchain forensics from the ground up. Today, he helps victims worldwide investigate sophisticated crypto scams and supports law enforcement with digital evidence.

In this episode, you'll learn:
🔍 Why so-called privacy coins aren't as invisible as many believe
🔍 How investment, romance, and Ponzi scams combine convincing stories with legitimate KYC procedures
🔍 How a global alliance of crypto forensic experts can freeze suspicious funds within minutes
🔍 What the Bybit hack revealed about the biggest security risk in crypto: human behavior

Whether you're an investor, founder, or simply interested in the future of digital assets, this conversation offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at one of the fastest-growing fields in cybersecurity ⤵️

Yesterday, Venionaire Capital had the pleasure of participating in the Corporate Innovators Circle, bringing together entrepreneurs, executives, academics, and innovation leaders to discuss the impact of AI on business, leadership, and competitive advantage.

A special thank you to Lukas Zenk for hosting the evening. His highly interactive opening session encouraged participants to engage with one another from the very beginning, creating an atmosphere that was far more dynamic than a traditional conference format.

The event featured insightful contributions from Berthold Baurek-Karlic, Christiane Noll, and Dominic von Proeck Sr., who shared their perspectives on how artificial intelligence is reshaping organizations and industries.

In his keynote, Berthold highlighted a topic that often receives too little attention in the AI discussion: infrastructure. While much of the public conversation focuses on applications and large language models, the underlying technologies that power AI are equally important.

He pointed to European innovators such as Q.ANT GmbH, which develops photonic AI chips, and Kisab, which works on 8-inch diameter BPD-free n-type Silicon Carbide substrates. These companies demonstrate that Europe has the talent, technology, and industrial capabilities to play a meaningful role in the future of AI.

Thank you to all speakers, participants, and partners, including Danube Business School, Universität für Weiterbildung Krems, BETA COMPANY INNOVATION®, and weXelerate, for an engaging evening and many valuable conversations.

Austria just got its newest publicly listed unicorn. 🦄

Emerald Horizon AG (VIE: SMRX) rang the opening bell on the Wiener Boerse today and closed at €1,010 per share, crossing the €1 billion market cap mark on day one.

That's a +32.89% first-day gain, from €760 open to unicorn status by close.
We're proud to have supported Emerald Horizon as advisors on their path to the public markets.

What makes this company special isn't just the numbers, it's what they're building:

→ DUALstore PLUS: a hybrid storage system combining LFP batteries, molten-salt thermal storage, and AI energy management for reliable renewable energy around the clock

→ ADES: a thorium-based microreactor for carbon-free baseload power, no uranium, no self-sustaining chain reaction

Two technologies. One mission: decarbonise energy supply at global scale.
Deep tech listings of this scale are rare in Austria. Today is proof that Europe's innovation ecosystem is producing companies capable of competing on the world stage and that Vienna is very much part of that story.

Congratulations to Florian Wagner, Philipp Pölzl and the entire Emerald Horizon team. This is just the beginning. 🔔

"If you run a SaaS business the way you did three years ago, you will likely die."

That's Florian Wimmer, CEO of Blockpit AG, on what the AI shift really means for software and why crypto tax is one place AI can't simply take over.

In the latest episode of Let's Talk About Tech, host Philipp Sakuler sits down with Florian for his second appearance on the show to unpack where digital assets are heading as institutions move in and enforcement closes in.

In this conversation:
→ Why "SaaS is dying" misreads what's actually happening with AI agents
→ How CARF and DAC8 will turn pseudonymous crypto into an open book for tax authorities
→ Why only an estimated 1.5% of crypto investors declare and what changes when enforcement hits
→ Stablecoins, MiCA, and the opportunity for a euro stablecoin

A sharp look at regulation, compliance, and building software in the AI era. Watch or listen below 👇
