YANUNI has been selected for The Academy Awards® Shortlist!! ✨🎬
This recognition means more to us than we can easily put into words.
First and foremost, thank you to our fearless leader, indigenous activist Juma Xipaia who asks in the film “Are you listening?” and today it seems her voice is being heard alongside her husband Hugo Loss.
This is a bittersweet moment for us all, since today we also learned that one of Hugo’s colleagues in IBAMA (the National Brazilian Environmental Protection Agency) was murdered in the course of his work as an environmental defender.
We are grateful to be in the company of these incredible films on the shortlist, and also want to acknowledge the many filmmakers whose amazing work was part of this year’s consideration.
This film wouldn’t exist without our incredible partners who believed in this film from the very beginning - Nia Tero, Age of Union, Appian Way, Tellux and the Austrian Film Institute (ÖFI+).
We are honored to share this story from the territory to the world.

Antes de tudo, nosso agradecimento à nossa líder incansável, a ativista indígena Juma Xipaia, que pergunta no filme “Vocês estão ouvindo?” — e hoje parece que sua voz está sendo ouvida, ao lado de seu marido Hugo Loss.
Este é um momento agridoce para todos nós, pois hoje também soubemos que um dos colegas de Hugo no IBAMA (Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis) foi assassinado no exercício de seu trabalho como defensor ambiental.
Somos gratos por estar ao lado de filmes tão extraordinários nesta shortlist e também queremos reconhecer os muitos cineastas cujo trabalho incrível fez parte da seleção deste ano.
Este filme não existiria sem nossos parceiros fundamentais, que acreditaram nele desde o início — Nia Tero, Age of Union, Appian Way, Tellux e o Instituto Austríaco de Cinema (ÖFI+).
