🛣️ Territorians have spoken.

The 2026 AANT Risky Roads Report highlights the regional and remote roads locals say need the most attention to improve safety across the Territory.

The top five riskiest regional and remote roads identified were:

#1: Arnhem Highway
#2: Bing B**g Road
#3: Cox Peninsula Road
#4: Mermaid Circuit
#5: Dorat Road

From road surface conditions to narrow lanes and overtaking opportunities, these are the roads Territorians believe should be prioritised.

⚠ ROAD UPDATES ⚠
Significant rainfall is causing localised flooding. Road closures are in place for safety and to allow repairs as soon as conditions allow.

Do NOT drive on closed or flooded roads. Driving through them damages the road surface and keeps roads closed for longer.

BIG RIVERS:
• The Stuart Highway is CLOSED between Emungalan Drive and Mataranka.
• Victoria Highway remains CLOSED. Do NOT drive until it can be safely assessed and repaired.
• The Victoria Highway/Bicentennial Loop Road is CLOSED.
• Katherine main street remains closed. Detours are in place for local traffic in the C*D.

GREATER DARWIN:
• Batchelor Road at Coomalie Creek Crossing – CLOSED
• Arnhem Highway from Corroboree Park – CLOSED
• Crater Lake Road – CLOSED
• Cox Peninsula Road – IMPASSABLE
• Jenkins Road – IMPASSABLE
• Fogg Bay Road – water over road
• Edith River Bridge, Cullen River Bridge and Elizabeth River Bridge on the Stuart Highway – lower level bridge closed due to flooding, detour in place via high level bridge.
