Hey everyone. Remember me?
Thank you for all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers.
Sorry I haven't been in touch lately... 10 years ago I had an accident on my bike and smashed my hip. Last week, I had a very similar accident which resulted in having to have that same hip repaired again. Thankfully this time around I wasn't in the RAH for 6 weeks BUT the surgery was extensive and painful and I have been rehabbing and will be back home soon.
Currently enjoying watching the Olympics and being able to see Lukas is the highlight of my day.
But you realise how good life is when you wake up in the morning and you gotta spend 15 minutes working out how to get out of bed. Because all of this is on top of having Stage 4 cancer, atrial fibrillation and a bad case of concussion which affected me badly for a few weeks where I had no idea where I was and what I was doing. As a result of the anesthetic, I had a bad dose of delirium which is common in older people under large doses of anesthesia and had me thinking I was wondering around the streets of Perth in the middle of the night. That is all behind me. Even though learning how to walk again and being in Hampstead again is hard work.
But now I have assembled a team around me which of course includes my family, who visit every day, and the opportunity to learn lots to the point that I now have no idea what my book is about.
I apologise to all those, particularly overseas, that I promised to get stuff for. As with the last time, the impact of things like this have way more impact on the brain than the body. I do aim to be in touch soon, once I work out what life looks like for me in the future. Rest assured all the physical damage is sorting itself out. The pain of my hip has subsided and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to get on with life as soon as possible, given I'm getting a bit old.
You can visit me if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it as it's full of sick people.
Talk soon.
