Lately it feels like every platform is trying to bring back the social in social media 📱
LinkedIn is the latest, trialling a "Network tab" - an alternative feed made up entirely of posts from people and pages you've directly followed or connected with. Chronological order, no algorithm. LinkedIn's Chief Product Officer describes it as "a small part of rebuilding real connection."
It's just a trial, so we'll see if it sticks (and no indication of when/if it will trial in Aus!). But here's what it could mean for businesses in the meantime.
1️⃣ If someone has intentionally followed your company page, your posts land in their Network tab without needing to fight the algorithm for reach. Company page organic content has been suppressed for years, so this is a potential win.
2️⃣ Employee advocacy becomes more powerful. When your team shares or comments on company content, those posts reach their direct connections in a less cluttered feed. If you've been encouraging your people to post, this rewards that.
3️⃣ Your company page can act more like a real account. Follow clients or partners and their posts appear chronologically in your feed. You can see their updates instantly and engage quickly.
Our take
The good: it rewards businesses that have built a genuine following over time ✅
The reality: it's a tab people have to actively choose to visit - and most won't, at least not yet 🤷
Worth watching. Not worth rebuilding your strategy around until we know it's staying.
