A knock on the door. A moment of concern. And help when it was needed most.

Yesterday, one of our volunteers arrived to deliver a meal, but our customer didn’t answer the door.

For many people, this might seem like nothing more than a missed delivery.

But our volunteers know that sometimes, when something is out of the ordinary, it’s important to check.

The concern was raised, and our team quickly began a welfare check. We contacted the customer’s emergency contact, who went to the home to see if everything was okay.

When there was still no answer, they made the decision to enter the house, where they found the customer lying on the floor and unable to get up.

An ambulance was called immediately, and the customer was taken to hospital for urgent care.

Without our volunteer noticing that something wasn’t right, and our team following up, the customer may not have been found until the next scheduled meal delivery.

That’s why Meals on Wheels is about so much more than delivering a meal.

Every day, our volunteers provide nutritious food, a friendly face, social connection and, importantly, reassurance that someone is there to notice when something doesn’t seem right.

We’re incredibly proud of the care, compassion and vigilance our volunteers show every day.

Because sometimes, one knock on the door can make all the difference. ❤️

💛 Young People Making an Impact! 💛

On Sunday afternoon, Meals on Wheels SA CEO Sharyn Broer and Wellbeing & Employee Partner Sarah Harrison had the privilege of attending an Young Impact100 South Australia event at St Andrew’s School, where a group of young future leaders came together to decide how funds they had raised would be shared between three incredible charities.

The students heard presentations from the Forktree Project, HAS Foundation and Meals on Wheels SA, learning about the work each organisation does and the projects they hope to make possible.

Each student was then given tokens to vote for the organisation they felt would make the greatest impact.

We are incredibly grateful to report that Meals on Wheels SA received $11,420.19 from the Young Impact Future Leaders! 🎉

This generous donation will help us establish intergenerational programs in regional South Australia, bringing our customers and volunteers together with younger generations to share stories, experiences and connection.

A huge thank you to the Young Impact Future Leaders for choosing Meals on Wheels SA and investing in the power of intergenerational connection. We can’t wait to see the impact this funding creates! 💛

💛 National Meals on Wheels Day | A Movement of Care 💛

It's National Meals on Wheels Day and this year we’re celebrating the incredible movement of care that sits at the heart of what we do.

At our recent National Conference in Adelaide, Moira Were AM, Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga and Civic and Social Impact Leader, spoke powerfully about community as a practice and care as a movement.

And that’s exactly what Meals on Wheels represents.

We are a movement of care, powered by volunteers and strengthened by community. Every meal delivered, every friendly conversation at the door and every helping hand in the kitchen is part of something much bigger - a community coming together to support older Australians to live independently, safely and connected to others.

Join us in celebrating National Meals on Wheels Day and help us recognise the people who make this movement possible every day. 🚗💛

🌺 Vietnam Veterans Day 🌺

On Vietnam Veterans Day, we pause to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of Australians who served during the Vietnam War.

We reflect with gratitude for their dedication and the enduring impact of their contributions, remembering the sacrifices made and the legacy they leave in our community.

🎬🍿 What a way to celebrate 72 years of Meals on Wheels South Australia! 🎉❤️

On Friday, we brought together our incredible volunteers for our annual Movie Day at the Capri Theatre to celebrate our birthday and, most importantly, to say THANK YOU for everything they do.

With more than 450 people in attendance, it was a fantastic day of celebration! Volunteers from 33 of our branches across South Australia came together to mingle, catch up with friends and enjoy a special screening of ‘Holy Days’.

Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, energy and heart to help us build well-nourished and independent communities.

Happy 72nd Birthday, Meals on Wheels SA! 🥳🎂
