While higher education rapidly adapts to digital learning to accommodate students’ work and family commitments, Don Markwell’s “The College Ideal” argues the case for residential academic college life as the idyllic educational experience.

To remain relevant in an increasingly polarised world, where many traditional graduate pathways are being disrupted by rapid technological advancement, Don Markwell draws on his recent experience as head of St Mark’s College to highlight the role residential colleges can play in foregrounding values and character in their students, over and above knowledge and skills.

A former global head of the Rhodes Scholarship, Markwell also highlights the responsibility of Colleges to create safe spaces for academic exploration and debate, free from racism, sexism and xenophobia, and using their philanthropic potential to ensure that they are not restricted to serve only the privileged.

I was so pleased to catch up with Don at the launch last night, and encourage anyone interested in these important questions to have a look at The College Ideal – available now from Wakefield Press: https://www.wakefieldpress.com.au/product/the-college-ideal/.

Hat tip to local Rhodes Scholar Oliver Douglas for his outstanding speech launching the book.

Democracy is a blessing, and the volunteers who support political candidates - whether friends or family, or volunteers who share their values - provide a service to our community.

To all the volunteers who helped Scott Kennedy - Liberal for Morialta today across all the Morialta booths, and throughout the campaign, thank you for all your hard work. Whatever happens this evening your efforts have been magnificent.

To my friend Scott, I’m proud to have been working with you during this campaign and over the many years you have served our community with distinction through other roles. You deserve to be elected, but whatever happens you should be very proud of your efforts.

Eight years ago Labor planned to sell this site off for development. The Liberals built a school instead, and Morialta Secondary College is now thriving - with students putting on an amazing display for local voters. Also one of the best democracy sausage setups in the area!

Come for the music, stay for the sausage, and vote 1 for lifelong local CFS volunteer Scott Kennedy - Liberal for Morialta!

Music playing until 1pm. Well done to the students and the performing arts staff on this terrific initiative.

Other great local polling booths with friendly Liberal volunteers include:
- Magill Primary School
- Stradbroke Primary School
- Thorndon Park Primary School
- St Francis of Assisi School, Newton
- Dernancourt Kindy
- Turramurra Rec Centre
- Highbury Primary School
- St Agnes Primary School
- Athelstone Primary School

And that’s all folks! Leaving the Morialta Electorate Office as the local MP for the last time. All packed up with some choice reading left for whoever is elected as our new MP…

(In case you missed it I’m backing the very talented Scott Kennedy - Liberal for Morialta - lifelong local and volunteer firefighter - be sure to vote!)

One final thank you to the Morialta residents who have honoured me with their trust to serve them in the Parliament over the last sixteen years, and to my family who have given me all their love and support every step of the way, especially Trudi and our girls.
