I'm delighted to be giving a presentation titled"Building Rapport in the Workplace"next Tuesday morning at the BHA business networking breakfast and I would like any interested people to join us.😀

I will be speaking about how we can avoid misunderstandings, assumptions and conflict in the workplace by understanding and appreciating personality differences.

Hope to see you there!

At the last workshop, I was delighted that the participants found the workshop so interesting and helpful.

"Suzanne's teaching style was informative and engaging. The course allowed me to reflect on my communication skills and how to better them! I would recommend this course." Rosalie Vardaro

"Suzanne makes the class open up and engage in the variety of exercises, encouraging everyone to have fun and be animated. All the worksheets and exercises are fun challenges that allow students to practise in real life to improve tamselves." Caitlin Stopps.

A couple of weeks ago I facilitated an interactive workshop on Effective Communication Skills. The participants and I had a lot of fun! They worked in pairs, small groups and as a whole class. They learnt about verbal communication but they also learnt the importance of non-verbal communication ie. body language and paralanguage.

Did you know that only 7% of communication is verbal? The rest is made up of body language 58%, and paralanguage 38%.

Many people know what body language is but not many people I meet know about paralanguage. I am fascinated by this form of communication, because not only do we use it a lot more than we realise, but it also widely differs from one culture to another.

I will talk about this more in future posts, but I'll briefly explain what it is. It's the pitch, pace, pause, volume and tone. It's also the ums, ahs, sighs etc. Detectives watch out for the paralanguage and body language when interviewing suspects.

Hi everyone, although I haven't been active on this page for quite a while, I I thought I'd let you know what I've been up to!

I have still been running and facilitating Communication and Myers Briggs workshops for various organisations. In these workshops, I use CREATIVE and FUN strategies to help employers and employees build better teamwork, and help individuals hone their communication skills a*o they improve their relationships.

THINKERS v FEELERS

I always feel excited when I run Myers Briggs and communication workshops because they fit in so well with my life's purpose - to inspire others to be the best version of themselves and to live in harmony with others!

At some recent workshops, people have been commenting on how much they love learning about people who are different from them and how to get on with them better.

Today we're going to focus on the differences between the THINKERS and the FEELERS.

I wonder which personality style you will identify with and whether you know people close to you, who have a completely different personality style from you!

I'd love you to share your thoughts with me in the comments below😀!

Some of the THINKERS' possible strengths are:
Logic, objective thinking, a sense of fairness, critical ability, organisation.

Some possible weaknesses are:
Not showing feelings, misunderstanding others' values, not noticing other people's feelings, lack of interest in conciliation.
THINKERS sometimes assume that FEELERS are "touchy-feely" and over-sensitive!

On the other hand, the FEELERS' possible strengths are:
Consideration for others' feelings, an interest in conciliation, an understanding of needs and values, demonstration of feelings.
Possible weaknesses are:
Being uncritical and over-accepting, less organised, not guided by logic.
FEELERS sometimes assume that THINKERS are unfeeling, conceited, aloof.

Here are some comments from WEA participants:

"I found the workshop totally engaging, fun and informative. I learnt how to interact better with other personality types." Neil.

"I'm fascinated by this sort of information. I enjoyed the class and participants very much. I loved hearing about the different forms of communication, depending on Personality Type and the importance of accepting differences." Kate.

Today's post is about the Myers Briggs personality (MBTI) - Sensor (S). Their catch phrase is "Let's look at the facts!"
This type of personality lives in the here and now. They are practical and love to talk about details and tangible experiences.

The iNtuitive(N) and Sensor(S) personalities view the world very differently and the iNtuitive often says to a Sensor: "Oh, spare me the detail" and "information overload!"

As one WEA participant commented: " People are interpreting the same object/idea/emotion differently".

Do you love details, the practical, down to earth elements of life? Do you have to deal with people who have the opposite sort of personality to yours. eg. "Airy fairy" people😜??

Stay tuned to tomorrow's post about iNtuitors(N)

Today's post is about Introverts.

One of the participants in my WEA Myers Briggs workshop wrote:

"I learnt that it is ok to be your unique self and be comfortable in your own skin".

These days, many Introverts feel uncomfortable and somehow "different" in our extraverted world and yet studies have shown that 1/3 to 1/2 of America's population are Introverts (Australia may be the same). Introverts often pretend to be Extraverts just "to fit in".

The word "Introverted" is often misunderstood. It doesn't necessarily mean shy or reserved . Introverts are comfortable in the inner world of thought and feeling. They focus on the meaning they make of the events that happen around them. Introverts may like other people's company and have strong social skills, but after a while, they can become "peopled out"! They might need to recharge their batteries by being alone.

Can you identify with some of these qualities?

Finland is generally known as an introverted nation.

Finnish joke:
Q. How can you tell if a Finn likes you?
A. He's staring down at your shoes instead of his!

Stay tuned to tomorrow's post about Sensors.
