Brainstorming is a daunting process. It can lead to Group-think. Or worse, people recycling or dusting off old ideas.

Best in the World 🌎 is a method we use to warm up the team to inspire creative thinking πŸ€” . It always leads to more interesting results. It asks people to start with research, instead of launching into ideation.

Rather than focusing on your industry we get the team to focus instead on the actual challenge. They look for examples of entities or people that have found success overcoming a similar challenge, realised a vision etc related to the focus. The team share winning aspects of their research to inspire the ideation process.

The process emphasises that the team should look outside their domain for inspiration. It reveals different approaches, business models, technologies, and expertise in overcoming similar problems. As well as show the constraints and hurdles others had to overcome. This can lead to new and interesting ways of overcoming challenges.

During the brainstorming phase, there may be times where we come up with an idea... and hold onto it for dear life.

6-8-5 is a tool we use in our 'Design Thinking Program' to combat this instict. As the name suggests, this activity calls for participants to generate between 6 to 8 ideas in 5 minutes.

We always encourage our participants to sketch out their ideas and to remember that this isn't a drawing contest!

"Coaches should have a passive agenda, which is to help the person transform or flourish. So that's why [as a coach], it's interesting to basically have ego disillusion and have to unlearn talking, practice active listening, trust your gut, and forget about what you want to say or what you want to ask." – Jonas Altman

In this episode, we speak with Jonas on:
πŸ“‰ The "hustle" culture, burn out, and perceived pressure to productise and monetise.
🧠 Why people would seek out a coach and how they can enhance your life.
βš–οΈ The difference between a coach and a mentor.
✨ The key qualities of a highly effective coach.

In Part 5 of our 2021 Reflections video series, we look back on how series has changed since it first stared.

Some of the changes we made from Season 1 to Season 2:

πŸ—“ Holding our sessions fortnightly to monthly.

πŸ’» Hosting our Talkshops exclusively on Zoom to exploring new platforms like Butter, Spotify Greenroom and Topia.

πŸŽ™Launched a podcast series alongside our Talkshops.

This has allowed us to experiment with the format of our sessions and continue to give participants something new and exciting each month πŸ”₯

We love that our speakers AND participants have supported us with their willingness and bravery to try out new things with us!
