🚨 MAJOR UPDATE: Australia’s New "Arrival Control" Powers are LIVE. 🚨

As of March 14, 2026, Section 84B has officially entered the Migration Act. This is one of the most significant changes to border control in recent years. Here is the breakdown:

🔍 What is Section 84B? It’s basically a "Pause Button" for travel. It allows the Minister for Home Affairs to temporarily stop entire groups of temporary visa holders from entering Australia—even if they already have a valid visa!

⚖️ How does it work? If there is a global crisis (like conflict or a natural disaster), the government can issue an "Arrival Control Determination." This prevents people from certain countries or visa subclasses from boarding flights to Australia for up to 6 months.

✅ Who is EXEMPT? (The Good News)

Australian Citizens & Permanent Residents.

Immediate family (spouses, de facto partners, and dependent children) of citizens/PRs.

Visa holders who are already inside Australia when the rule starts.

⚠️ The Catch: Your visa isn’t cancelled, it’s just paused. However, the clock on your visa expiry date keeps ticking. If your visa expires during the pause, it won’t automatically be extended.

💡 Pro-Tip: Check your ImmiAccount before you head to the airport. If a determination is active, you might see a "Do Not Board" status, even if your visa looks valid.
