A new milestone for beloved South Aussie business!

We’re proud to have supported, SA family-owned and operated business, Gaganis, in securing planning consent for their new state-of-the-art wholesale facility and corporate headquarters in Hindmarsh, South Australia.

Established by Paul Gaganis in 1971, the business will celebrate 54 years in 2025. This new multi-level facility will serve as their national headquarters while continuing to provide customers with the immersive and authentic wholesale experience they have come to love.

MasterPlan's team, led by Kirsten Falt and Michael Richardson, collaborated closely with the project team - including Cheesman Architects, Matter, and Frank Siow & Associates - to understand the business's unique needs and successfully navigate the assessment process.

We look forward to seeing the project taking shape!

Passing the torch!

MasterPlan’s value rests with its people. There is never one person who makes a business great, but good managers are a critical ingredient in the success of any company. This is the approach that Simon Tonkin has followed in his 42 years at the helm of MasterPlan. In his own words,

“… It’s all about the people, …. get that right and the rest will follow.”

It is through Simon’s people-first approach that MasterPlan continues to thrive today and will into the future. It is therefore with mixed emotions that we announce that Simon Tonkin will be stepping aside as Managing Director from the 1st of January 2024.

Building from this strong foundation, we are proud to announce that Greg Vincent will be assuming the role of MasterPlan's Managing Director. Greg’s knowledge and the high regard for him as a planning professional will ensure the vision and values of MasterPlan are maintained and continued.

On this handover, MasterPlan celebrates the career of Simon Tonkin.

Simon has acted as a Director of the company since the early 1980’s, first as Brian Turner and Associates, then Bone and Tonkin Planners, and since 1996 as MasterPlan. Simon’s collaborative and percipient management approach has successfully navigated the company through challenges, growth, and success alike.

Simon’s career as a professional Planner, Director, and mentor has, in his words,

“…. been significantly enhanced by the people met and the relationships established.”

Simon was previously recognised by his peers as a Life Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia. Simon says,

“We are privileged in the role we play as planners, and we should respect that role and the community we serve.”

Simon is looking forward to having more time for leisurely pursuits, but you will still see him around as he continues to assist our clients through MasterPlan.

What important work is being done by the Sammy D Foundation. As a Partner sponsor of the ‘Reach for the Stars Ball’, we were able to hear firsthand from vulnerable teenagers who have benefited from the Foundations mentoring programs, along with the direct education provided to schools and community organisations . Congratulations to the Sammy D leadership team for having such a positive impact in the lives of our youth.

The Reach for the Stars Ball is an annual event and a key source of sponsorship for this important Foundation. We encourage your company to look out for next year’s dates – as it is also a great night out!

The first World Heritage Listening Post is on this morning!

Head down to Market Square this morning, where you will be able to have a chat to Council and heritage experts about Burra’s World Heritage Bid.

This is a great opportunity to ask questions about the status of the bid and what it means for Burra and the broader Goyder region… and to also share your concerns or ideas!

With the School Holidays here, MasterPlan would like to take a moment to recognise Discovery Holiday Parks on their transformative Goolwa Holiday Park development which provides family accommodation and activities.

Discovery Parks recently completed stage 5 of the 6 stage re-development of the park. MasterPlan facilitated planning consent for the significant upgrade in 2021. Since that time Discovery Parks have worked tirelessly to drive the project through an accelerated construction and delivery phase, resulting in a dramatic transformation of the site over the past two years. The remarkable change can be seen in the timelapse below.

The MasterPlan team is pleased to have assisted with the development of a supported accommodation precinct in Northfield, providing a mix of unit forms to suit the varied needs of occupants. The precinct provides much needed accommodation whilst responding to the features of the site, retaining a series of significant trees and providing landscaping surround the buildings to heighten amenity both within and outside of the development.

Congratulations to the client Angelo Properties, and the project team of Piteo Architects, Arborman Tree Solutions, Stantec and MLEI Engineering on the success of a development that provides significant value to the community.
