Many amazing memories Sue and I have had over the past 40 years with Andy Easton. It is never easy to learn of the passing of someone who has had a significant impact on your life. Aware of his mortality, Andy wanted no more than to be still working in his greenhouse to conclude a life lived to the fullest. Sue and I have been fondly reflecting on many past events this morning.

It was 1998 when James Rose was the keynote speaker for the then Australian Cymbidium Show at Ararat, western Victoria - his presentation showcased his vast knowledge of Orchids and laconic humour. With friend Andy Easton, I remember they attended a local Australian Rules football game, and with only a basic understanding of the code, became passionate supporters, leading the crowd with their enthusiastic cheers. and commentary. Naturally, his Nursery Cal-Orchids in Santa Barbara was a must-visit destination in this renowned orchid-growing region, especially during the prestigious Santa Barbara International Orchid Show. James' passing leaves a giant hole in the world Orchid community.

END OF AN ERA
After much consideration, the time has come to close our Boutique Orchid Nursery. Sue and Graham have been proudly operating our Wholesale Pot Plant business at our Burton property since 1985. We’ve been fortunate to turn our passion into a livelihood, and we are deeply grateful to our loyal retail customers in Victoria, Queensland, and the ACT for their support over the years. As we embark on new adventures in life, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been part of our journey.

What an eventful year, highlighted by the launch of The Orchidist. It is fair to say feedback from those who have read the book has exceeded expectations.
When we look at ways to improve Cymbidium Orchids, factors in addition to flower characteristics should not be left out of the equation. As always, plant size, time to flower from flask, and multi spiking properties should be at the forefront in hybridising. To illustrate, here is a plant 14 months ex-flask.
