We're Hiring – Skilled Trades Assistant (Casual)

Albany Solar and Hot Water is looking for a reliable and motivated Skilled Trades Assistant to join our team on a casual basis, with the opportunity for ongoing work for the right person.

About the role:
You'll be assisting with the installation and maintenance of solar and hot water systems while working alongside experienced tradespeople.

To be successful, you will have:

Ability to work safely at heights
Experience using hand and power tools
A current White Card
Good physical fitness and a strong work ethic
A positive attitude and commitment to workplace safety

Elite HR Solutions and the Baker family extend our heartfelt condolences to the Heggaton family, friends and the wider Kojonup community following the tragic passing of James Heggaton in a motor vehicle accident in the early hours of Saturday 23 May.

James was known to us through his involvement with Evergreen Grazing Co and as a shareholder in Kojonup Feeds. He was highly respected within the agricultural community and his passing will be deeply felt by many.

This loss comes less than two years after the passing of his father, Dr Craig Heggaton, making this an especially difficult time for the Heggaton family.

Our thoughts are particularly with James’s mother, Liz Heggaton, during this incredibly difficult time, along with all family members, friends and colleagues grieving this devastating loss.

📅 Do you know the different types of leave employees are entitled to in Australia?

Under the Fair Work Act, employees may be entitled to several different categories of leave, including:

✔️ Annual Leave – Paid time off for rest and recreation
✔️ Personal / Carer’s Leave – When employees are sick or caring for an unwell or injured family member 🤒
✔️ Compassionate Leave – When a close family member passes away or suffers a life-threatening illness
✔️ Parental Leave – For the birth or adoption of a child 👶
✔️ Community Service Leave – Including emergency services and jury duty 🚒⚖️

In addition, employees may also be entitled to Long Service Leave, which is governed by state legislation rather than the Fair Work Act.

❓ Is your employee award-covered… or award-free?

Many people assume every employee in Australia is covered by a modern award or enterprise agreement — but that’s not always the case.

Some roles fall outside award coverage and are classified as award or agreement-free employees.

This often includes senior roles such as managers, executives and CEOs.
However, this is not always the case, and many managerial roles are still covered by an award depending on the duties performed and the industry. It’s always prudent to check carefully rather than assume 🔎.

Importantly, award-free doesn’t mean rule-free ⚖️.

Employers must still comply with:
✔️ National Employment Standards (NES)
✔️ National Minimum Wage (where applicable)
