investors make profitable and sustainable agricultural investments. We understand how sustainability intersects with innovation to help drive the triple bottom line of increased soil health, reduced environmental impacts and improved financial returns. Our first step is to understand our clients and the goals they would like to achieve from their investment. Part of our obligation to each client is to educate them on the practicality of investing into agriculture, the potential returns that are achievable and the best areas to target for investment. We work on a value investment strategy whereby we look for undervalued opportunities that have the ability to outperform the market. We aren’t interested in investing in land for the sake of it, and we have real boots on the ground understanding of how properties work and what can be done to improve the outcomes of different properties. We use our knowledge of emerging technology and the potential efficiency gains that are coming to the production systems to help unearth trends that could potentially drive increased returns for investors over the short to medium term. With a strong emphasis on increasing soil health as the foundation for improving the farming system. We specialise in farming systems that are the most efficient users of fertilisers and chemicals, reducing inputs whilst maintaining returns and reducing our impact on the environment.

Most farmers understand production.

Many understand the numbers.

Very few stop long enough to ask:

Is this business actually serving the life we want?

Working 18-hour days isn’t a strategy.

Being flat out isn’t alignment.

A strong farm business isn’t just profitable.

It’s aligned.

Aligned with:• your personal goals• your spouse• your family• the people working alongside you

Because if you don’t design the business deliberately…

It will slowly design your life for you.

The shift is simple:

Stop only working IN the business.
Start working ON it.

That means:• defining what you want life to look like• deciding what the business must deliver• aligning everyone involved• building direction before expansion

Most farm businesses focus heavily on production.
Very few objectively assess:
• Direction
• Profit drivers
• Capital decisions
• Financial strength
• Management capacity
That’s exactly why I created the Farm Business Strategy Scorecard.
It takes 5–10 minutes.
And it shows you where the real leverage is.
Comment SCORE and I’ll send it through.

For years, the default answer in farming has been: “Just produce more.”
But more production without direction often creates more pressure — not more freedom. More complexity. More workload. More risk.

What changes a farm business long term is clarity.
👉Clarity on what you want life to look like.
👉What the business needs to deliver.
👉Where you’re heading over the next 3–5 years.
👉Direction before dollars💸.
That’s the foundation inside the Farm Business Clarity Planner.
Founding access closes soon. If you want to build a business that supports your life — not consumes it — this is where you start. 👇

If you’ve been approached about transmission lines, renewable energy projects, pipelines or other major infrastructure developments crossing your farm, it’s important to understand what the long-term impacts could look like for your business — not just during construction, but for years afterwards.

At Southern Ag Management we have worked with farmers to help assess the practical and operational impacts these projects may have on farming businesses.

This can include looking at:
• Production losses
• Changes to paddock layouts and access
• Water and fencing infrastructure impacts
• Aerial spraying limitations
• Livestock management impacts
• Machinery access and efficiency
• Long-term operational costs

In many cases, the biggest impacts are the day-to-day operational issues that aren’t obvious at first glance.

Our role is to help farmers better understand how these projects may affect their operation so they can make informed decisions and ensure the realities of farming are properly considered.

help available for farmers suffering from the floods

Assistance is now available to those in the 25 local government areas (LGAs) impacted by flooding that began on 4 August in the state’s south and central west.

Under the Australian and New South Wales government’s Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), a ‘Category B’ natural disaster declaration allows eligible impacted primary producers, small businesses operators and not-for-profit organisations access to concessional interest rate loans to support their recovery and producers can also access transport subsidies.

A full list of eligible LGAs is available on our Declared Natural Disasters webpage:

Spring is finally here after what has been a very wet winter! It is exciting to see the sun shining and the grass growing.

Spring usually brings a flush of properties to the market, and I wanted to chat to you and make sure you were ready to take advantage if you are in the market to expand your farming enterprise.

Having worked in the bank for a number of years and now dealing with multiple financiers I can tell you that nothing happens quickly these days, and Covid restrictions can make it even slower!

Here are some things you may want to get sorted so that you can be in a good position if the right property comes up for sale.

✔️Complete you 20/21 Tax return
✔️Update your statement of position
✔️Update your cash flow forecast and double check you are all good for the rest of the season
✔️Sit down and talk to the key stakeholders in your business and discuss the next 1 year – 5 year plan and make sure you are all on the same page
✔️Engage an Independent Farm consultant to benchmark and strategize your business

If you are keen to expand your farming enterprise and would like to workshop your borrowing capacity to get an indication of lending limits, I am more than happy to assist you any time with a free no obligation chat.

SAGM Finance can also assist you with any equipment finance needs, so if you are looking to buy a new header for harvest or its time to upgrade the tractor or the ute, please let us help you get the best deal.
