I owe my family an apology.

The timing of jamming this legislation through on Christmas Eve, and the farce surrounding it, has put an enormous amount of stress on me. And the truth is, I’ve carried that stress home and taken it out on the people who least deserve it.

That’s on me.
I’m sorry.

I also want to acknowledge, again, the horrific Bondi events and the pain they have caused families and the broader community. Nothing I say diminishes that loss.

But scapegoating innocent, lawful people with flawed gun reform — reform that would have saved no one — is, to my core, WRONG.

Based on what I am seeing, neither Labor nor the Liberals will ever receive another vote from me.

I said this platform was not political. That has changed.

When rushed legislation is pushed through under emotion, without evidence, consultation, or reason, silence becomes complicity.

I won’t be silent.

The next election will be an interesting one. I will use this platform to inform people exactly where their representatives stood, and to support those who had the courage to oppose this.

Politicians talk about numbers and votes.
So do I.

I’ve spent the last few days scrolling MPs’ pages. My audience is bigger.

To my family — I’m sorry for the stress, the distraction, and the weight this has brought into our home. You didn’t ask for this, and you don’t deserve it.

I’ll do better.
