Today is International Women's Day

I ummed and ahhed over whether to put a post up. Because, TBH, I'm a little over the way it's glamourised and how inaccessible a lot of the events have become 🤷‍♀

But I got over it. So, rather than another "Happy IWD" I thought I'd share some practical ways we can together and help amplify gender equality everyday📢

1. Put your money where your values are. Support women-owned small businesses by buying their goods and services. Think outside your typical suppliers, look for those run by First Nations and women of colour.

2. If you have employees, review your policies. Offer a flexible work environment, access to paid parental leave, and be transparent on salaries. This isn’t just for women; this includes men and gender-diverse people too.

3. Have funds to invest? Apply a gender lens to your investment portfolio. Seek out businesses that are women-owned and led. And also those creating products and services that benefit women and girls.

4. Recognise the disproportionate impact climate change has on women and girls worldwide. Look at what you can do to improve your footprint; offset your carbon, choose more sustainable suppliers, or reconsider that purchase.

5. Re-think what AI tells you. AI and tech are still predominantly a white man’s field. Which means an unconscious bias sits within. So next time you use ChatGPT or any of those other platforms, fact-check the info coming back and think about its words, the language, its origins, and the impact it may have if you use it.

Today, I'm celebrating 3 years in business 🎊

As I reflect on the past few years of being a micro business owner, I realise how lucky and privileged I am to work for myself and create a business that aligns with my values and purpose.

I'm grateful for those who supported my journey to leap and those I have met along the way. I wouldn't have gotten this far without the support of my community.

So, thank you to my family, friends, clients, and fellow business owners for keeping me grounded.

A special thank you to my lil' furbaby, Matilda, who sits (well sleeps) with me day in and day out while I work 🐈‍⬛🐾And, most of all, thank you to my husband, who was the person who told me to "..just do it, and everything will work out." 😘

May there be many more years of creating positive change as a purpose-led business owner 💚

Here's my take on it.

In short, it's whatever you want it to be. Don't follow the crowd, don't follow the "you must do this".

Do what you want.

Do what feels comfortable.

Do what aligns with your values and purpose.

In the words of Fleetwood Mac "You can go your own way..." 🎶
