🖤💛❤️ Mabo Day | 3 June 💙🤍🖤💚

Today we honour the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo and the generations of First Nations people who fought for the recognition of our rights, our cultures, and our enduring connection to Country.

Mabo Day marks a significant moment in our history, recognising what our people have always known, that our connection to land, sea, culture, and community has existed for tens of thousands of years.

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and determination of our Elders and communities who continue to lead, protect, and pass on knowledge to future generations.

As we reflect on this important day, we acknowledge those who came before us, those walking beside us, and the young people who will carry our stories forward. ✊🏾

✨ In April, we delivered a Deadly Democracy workshop across Central Australian communities.

We visited the Atitjere community and worked with young people involved in the Children’s Ground youth program ❤️💛🖤 Together, we yarned about local, state, and federal government 🏛️, the importance of voting 🗳️, and how every voice matters.

We also explored the history of voting rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, recognising that our people were once denied the right to vote. It was important to share why voting today is powerful and why our voices continue to count ✊🏽

A big highlight of the workshop was having experienced dancer Liam Boaza join us 💃🏽🔥 Liam has travelled overseas to compete in world championship dance competitions and brought amazing energy to the day. Through “Guess the Dance Move” and other dance games 🎶, he had everyone up, moving, laughing, and engaged.

It was deadly to see young people learning, connecting, and building confidence in using their voices for the future 🙌🏽 special shout out to BJ and Litanie 💕

At Penangke, it’s all about Relationships That Matter — building strong connections that are real, respectful, and ongoing.

As our Strategic Plan says, we’re committed to “formalising strategic partnerships or MOUs with aligned Aboriginal organisations and networks” — and this is what that looks like in action.

Showing up, staying connected, and walking together.

Recently, our team attended the 2026 PARt Symposium, connecting with practitioners from across Central Australia and nationally to strengthen responses to domestic and family violence.

Peta-Lee and Raymond participated as panel speakers, sharing their knowledge and contributing to important conversations throughout the event.

The symposium brought together professionals working across prevention, early intervention, and response, creating a valuable space to share knowledge, build relationships, and reflect on what effective, community-led approaches look like in practice.

We greatly value opportunities like this to learn alongside others in the sector and to continue strengthening our work with women, children, and communities across Central Australia.

Thank you to the PARt: Prevent Assist Respond Training team for hosting this important event, and to all the organisations and practitioners who generously shared their knowledge and experience.

Back-to-back meetings in Tenant Creek on Warumungu Country this trip working alongside services on the ground and connecting with community.

The drive in was something special too 🚗 After the recent rain the country has come alive and seeing everything so green along the way was beautiful. It’s always a good reminder of how much the landscape changes after a good drop of rain 🌧️🌿

After a big day of meetings we cooled down with a dip at Lake Ann River 💧 It was the highest we’ve ever seen it and the perfect way to wrap up the day out on Country 🌅
