Neil deGrasse Tyson, Chuck Nice, & Gary O’Reilly dive into the mechanics of thinking, how AI got its start, and what deep learning really means with cognitive and computer scientist, Nobel Laureate, and one of the architects of AI, Geoffrey Hinton.

An significant development for Australian digital policy edges closer.

Interesting that all chat solutions (which are effectively "private" social media feeds these days) do not have some sort of functionality limitation, however this is presumably because it is an important form of communication between parents and peers, so it makes some sense. (And would be hard to regulate sensibly).

Roblox and gaming is probably the most interesting omission.

The federal government has announced online forum Reddit and live-streaming platform Kick will be included in Australia's under-16s social media ban.

In an interim report released recently, "Harnessing data and
digital technology", the Productivity Commission has floated a text and data mining exception for the Australian Copyright Act.

The Productivity Commission says over-regulation would stifle AI's $116 billion economic potential.

Writers, publishers and their industry bodies oppose any such exception – which would “preference the interests of multinational technology companies at the expense of our own creative industries”, according to the Copyright Agency.

Standalone laws to govern artificial intelligence should only be considered as a last resort, the Productivity Commission warns, saying heavy-handed regulation could stifle AI's potential to add more than $116 billion to the economy over the next decade.
