Every target set by the Australian Government. Exceeded.

Melbourne Innovation Centre is proud to share the 2023–25 results of our delivery of the Australian Government's Digital Solutions program:

7,003 small businesses supported (40% above the 5,000 target)
171 workshops delivered (target: 150)
15,804 mentoring hours provided (target: 15,000)
151 webinars delivered (target: 150)

Across Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, the program has helped business owners build practical digital skills in social media, ecommerce, email marketing, AI tools and content creation. It has also reached communities often missed by mainstream programs, with CALD workshops delivered in multiple languages, including Spanish and Vietnamese.

The outcomes for participants are tangible. One small business owner reported a $165,000 revenue increase following mentoring support.

Our sincere thanks to the Australian Government and to our delivery partners, Adelaide Business Hub in SA, and the Van Diemen Project in TAS. And, thank you to every small business owner who turned up ready to learn and grow.

Eddie wrote the book on metamorphosis.
Melbourne Innovation Centre helped guide his business through one.

Eddie is a conservation biologist, a PhD graduate, and the founder of Butterfly Adventures — a Melbourne company that has been releasing butterflies into the world (and into people’s hearts) for over 20 years.

Every week of the year, his team delivers butterfly hatching kits to families, hosts curriculum-linked sessions in schools and kinders, sets up the Butterfly Gazebo at aged care facilities, and makes kids’ parties genuinely unforgettable.

The business is extraordinary. The website? Wasn’t showing that.

That’s where Melbourne Innovation Centre stepped in.

Through the Digital Solutions Program, Eddie worked with MIC digital marketing specialist Kirri Romero to rebuild his brand strategy from the ground up — restructuring his website, developing email marketing campaigns and mapping out a clear social media approach for every customer segment.

After working with a brand design specialist. The metamorphosis is complete.

“Kirri Romero, a positive force of nature, made me feel like my business is the best business on this planet.” — Eddie Tsyrlin, founder, Butterfly Adventures

Pete Raine and his wife Zoe built Barbarian Brewing Co. from the ground up in Melbourne’s west. An independent, family-run brewpub in Kingsville — brought to life with the help of over 100 community volunteers.

Great product. Strong community. A venue that celebrates local culture, family and sport.

But behind the scenes? Pete was stretched. Marketing was reactive. Campaigns were ad hoc. And it was hard to know what was actually working.

So he joined Melbourne Innovation Centre’s Digital Solutions Program.

Through MIC, Pete built the structure he’d been missing: a 12-month campaign calendar, clearer content pillars and the confidence to make a strategic pivot away from Google Ads, leaning instead into community-led content and storytelling.

What happened next?

Barbarian Brewing had its best month ever. Zero paid ad spend.

“Programs like this are incredibly valuable for independent businesses. Having access to structured digital support while still running day-to-day operations makes a real difference.” — Pete Raine

If you’re a founder running on instinct and know it’s time to get more strategic, Melbourne Innovation Centre can help.

Helping Melbourne’s North lead the way in AI!

Our very own Jamie-Lee Meijer (Digital Lead) was a featured speaker at the North Link AI Summit 2026. It was incredible to see so many familiar faces from our MIC community in the crowd, all eager to learn how AI can help their businesses grow.

At MIC, we believe that innovation should be accessible to everyone, from the solo founder to the established manufacturer. Jamie's advice focused on making AI practical, ethical, and local.

Missed the event? No worries! We’re bringing these insights back to our community in our upcoming programs.

They say if you want to go fast, go alone - but to go far, go together! Last Friday, our new Cremorne office was electric as 50 female founders gathered for "Her TikTok Playbook", an exclusive MIC event.

With a waitlist of 100+ more, it’s clear: Australian female-led businesses are an unstoppable force. Our expert speakers showed why TikTok is no longer just an "app for kids" (the average user is now 33) and shared how real, authentic storytelling helps businesses grow.

They ALSO broke down the building blocks of a viral TikTok post, from showcasing your product in use, to creating content that connects. Don’t get left on the waitlist for our next event.
