November 8 is World Ventilation Day, with the theme for the inaugural running to be “celebrating ventilation”.

Bringing good clean air in from outside is crucial for health and wellbeing; it helps to keep CO2 levels down and lessens the risk of shared pathogens and illnesses. This uses power which works against the reduction of greenhouse gases. Additionally, the air outside can be poorer quality than inside; especially in fire season, when the pollen count is up, or when air pollution levels are high. So, what can you do? You can utilise air purifiers which filter the contaminants out of the air, so that you can balance ventilation with good air quality and optimise power usage to breathe easier.

With the current focus on energy costs, it is tempting to reduce ventilation rates as a way of saving money. But this brings potential significant health consequences in the long term. It is critical that the importance of good indoor air quality is at the heart of decisions about design and operation of buildings. Even simple actions can help enable better ventilation and heating without increasing energy costs.

Ryco Air Quality can help you achieve cleaner air quality especially when its difficult to create the require amount of ventilation with the implementation of HEPA air purification systems and replacement HEPA air filters.

With so much choice, it is only natural to ask what HEPA filter is best suited for my needs? At Ryco, we aim to help our customers make good decisions with quality filtration solutions, so what should you look for when buying a HEPA air filter?

At the heart of these devices is the HEPA filter itself. A filter media that has been designed and tested to meet a specific rating capable of removing airborne particles, such as dust, pollen, mould, bacteria, and airborne virus.

The filter combined with the specifications of the unit it fits is what delivers quality air to your living environment.

It is critical that you replace the HEPA filter according to the manufacturer's guidelines and you have a choice when it comes to replacement filters. Ryco leads the industry in providing quality manufactured H13 (99.97% efficiency at 0.3 Microns) rated air filters, tested locally in Australia to meet ISO standards and Australian conditions.

When selecting your preferred HEPA replacement filter for your purifier unit, Ryco ensures you have the option to select a locally tested, developed and supported filter.

Installing a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air Filter) is the right choice.

There is no denying that air quality has been put under the microscope. From classrooms to corporate offices the direction to Install HEPA air filtration to improve air quality and provide safer environments has gathered pace.

A “High-Efficiency Particulate Air” filter or HEPA is a type of filter that can trap and retain fine particles, with sizes measured in microns. A typical human hair is around seventy-five microns, a HEPA air filter can capture particles down to 0.3 microns in size.

Therein lies the power of these filtration units, with the ability to capture bacteria and airborne viruses at this extremely small size. Dust, pollen, smoke and other particles also play havoc with our respiratory system, from a scratchy throat to aggravating asthma these annoyances can be avoided with a HEPA filtration solution.

Just as heating and air conditioning units work to provide a stable temperature, HEPA air filtration improves air quality, delivering a safer living and work environment.

What is a HEPA Filter

A HEPA filter is a High Efficiency Particular Air filter that is typically pleated with a filter ‘media’. The pleats create a greater surface area creating a tortuous path to stop contaminants in the air stream getting through the filter.

To be a HEPA filter, the filter has to trap at least 99.97% of particles such as dust, pollen, mould and bacteria at 0.3 micron. As a comparison to 0.3 micron, a human hair is approximately 70 microns.

HEPA filters are classified as either H13 or H14. If you see something classified as ‘True HEPA’ it isn’t a real definition. The filter specifications are an important balance of filter efficiency – which is the percentage of dirt a filter moves, life – how long the filter lasts before clogging up and flow – how easily the air flows through the filter.

At H13 or H14 the filter needs to still be efficient but not immediately block or restrict the air flow. HEPA filters are used in a variety of industries from cabin air filters in Tesla vehicles to air purifiers.

Air filters can just be cleaned out rather than replaced

Attempting to clean out a disposable air filter with either compressed air or simply tapping it out can cause unseen damage to the the filter’s structure including, deforming the media spores, reducing the actual micron-rated pore size, and displacing media coatings.

This, in turn, can lead to reduced efficiency and greater sized particles being recirculated. Air Filters are designed for an intended ‘life’ based on a air purifiers intended use. For the risks you run when you attempt to clean a disposable air filter, it’s definitely worth just replacing it when the time comes.

Replacement filters sold separately

Air Purifier replacement filters are easily replaced with minimal fuss, without the need for special tools or processes.

All air purifier systems utilise various different replacement filters, from panel to radial style replacement filters. Replacing these filters on a regulars basis is important to ensure you maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of your systems ability to clean the air within your office, school or home environment. Replacement filters are designed to remove harmful pollutants and particles from the air, some replacement filters also include additional carbon layers to help remove odours from the environment. Some also include coatings to kill bacteria that builds up on the surface of the filter. Timely replacement of the filters as recommended on the units instructions is therefore paramount to ensure these harmful microorganisms and bacteria are removed from your Air Quality Purifier system.

Most replacement filters are easily removed without the need of special tools or procedures, check your units user guide for full details.
