Until the early 2000s, there wasn’t a clear definition in Australia for what actually qualifies as an ‘old vine,’ which meant it was open to interpretation, and sometimes a little misleading.

So, we decided to define it.

At Yalumba, ‘old vine’ means vines that are at least 35 years old - bringing with them depth, character and complexity you can truly taste.

From global vineyards to the heart of the Barossa Valley, Alexey Doumbouya has been named a finalist in the Young Gun of Wine Awards. Phenomenal news.

A resident winemaker at Yalumba since 2022, Alexey’s journey spans Israel, Argentina, Serbia, Italy, France, South Africa, Hungary and Washington DC - before landing in South Australia.

Now leading Vat-11 Grenache and The Virgilius Viognier, his approach is grounded in restraint and precision: wild fermentation, minimal intervention, and letting the vineyard speak.

Crafted from a two-acre block in Yalumba’s Tri-Centenary vineyard, this single vineyard Grenache comes from 820 bush vines planted in 1889.

We’re proud to share that Yalumba has been named #11 in The Real Review Top Wineries of Australia 2026.

A wonderful recognition of the dedication, craftsmanship and passion that goes into every bottle and an honour to be acknowledged alongside some of Australia’s most respected wineries. Thank you to Huon Hooke and the tasting panel for this recognition.

We’re also thrilled to celebrate our own Louisa Rose, Yalumba Ambassador and Hill-Smith Family Estates Head of Sustainability, who has been awarded the prestigious Len Evans Prize. The award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to Australian wine and who embody leadership, integrity, vision and lasting impact.
