We are managing our enterprises in a variable climate, and we need to be in the driver’s seat, is the message MerinoLink Limited attendees heard yesterday, from Ag360 expert Jaimi-lee Edwards.

“We all have experienced either extreme heat or cold or even both in our regions,” Jaimi-lee says. “These variations seem to be happening more often and are likely more extreme than what our gut and experience can manage for. That is where using agtech and data can assist in our decision-making process.

“The key to choosing any agtech is to know what goals you have for your operation, and what data or tool you need to get there.

“Using Ag360 as an example, this UNE-built tool can help you with a six month forecast customised to your location, or you can use it to test various future scenarios.”

The MerinoLink conference drew 135+ producers, advisors and researchers to Armidale on Thursday and Friday, 26-27 February. Ag360 is a free tool supported by the University of New England, AU-hosted SQNNSWHub Armidale Node, allowing producers to predict the future and record the past.

🌱 Smarter grazing decisions with Ag360! 🌧️🐄

Cattle producers Ian and Julie Firth, along with others across the Northern Tablelands of NSW, are building more resilient grazing systems thanks to the Drought Resilient Pasture Landscapes project, delivered by UNE Armidale and supported by the Future Drought Fund.

A key part of the project? Ag360 – a powerful tool that helps farmers like the Firths integrate climate forecasts into their feed budgeting and grazing decisions.

📊 “We’ve learned how to accurately measure pasture quality and density, and that’s helped us make better, more informed decisions,” says Julie.

☁️ Ian adds, “Ag360 lets us assess what’s working, predict rainfall, and use that to guide stocking and feeding decisions.”

💬 “It’s helped turn gut feelings into informed choices, backed by real data,” Julie says.
