🚨 Safety Alert: Overturning Mobile Concrete Pumps 🚨

Safety first! At Safe Lane Consulting Pty Ltd, we prioritize preventing overturning incidents with mobile concrete pumps. Follow these crucial steps to maintain a safe construction site:

1️⃣ Follow manufacturer guidelines: Only use short-legging if specified, with a written procedure or functioning computerized slew limiting device. Operators must be trained and informed about device limitations.

2️⃣ Stable foundation matters: Use appropriate pads (bog mats) or timbers (dunnage) under the outrigger feet. Conduct Dynamic Cone Pe*******on (DCP) tests and seek an engineer's advice to assess soil strength and avoid excessive loads.

3️⃣ Prioritize maintenance: Complete all manufacturer-specified inspections and maintenance prior to plant use. Don't compromise on safety—follow the recommended procedures diligently.

4️⃣ Protect people below: Never position the boom over inhabited areas like site sheds, scaffold, or access points. Safety is everyone's responsibility.

Safety is our top priority at Safe Lane Consulting Pty Ltd. Share this post to spread awareness and keep construction sites accident-free. 🚧🔒

🚧 Safety Alert: Overturning Mobile Concrete Pumps 🚧

To all construction industry professionals, we want to emphasise the importance of preventing overturning incidents with mobile concrete pumps.

Follow these essential steps to ensure safe operations:

1️⃣ Follow manufacturer guidelines: Use short-legging only if specified, with a written procedure or a computerized slew limiting device installed and functioning properly. Operators must be trained and aware of device limitations.

2️⃣ Solid foundation matters: Ensure the pads (bog mats) or timbers (dunnage) under the outrigger feet are the correct size and configuration. Perform Dynamic Cone Pe*******on (DCP) tests and consult an engineer to assess soil strength and avoid excessive loads.

3️⃣ Prioritize maintenance: Complete all manufacturer-specified inspections and maintenance before utilizing the plant. Don't skip any essential checks to ensure equipment reliability.

4️⃣ Keep people safe: Never position the boom over areas where people are below, such as site sheds, scaffold, or access points. Safety is paramount, and we must avoid potential hazards.

At Safe Lane Consulting Pty Ltd, we are dedicated to construction safety. Share this post to spread awareness and ensure a safer working environment. 🙌

🚧 Attention all Builders 🚧

What to do when scaffold is within an unsafe distance of an overhead structure? Can any of you spot the issue? 📸

The scaffold is within close proximity to the overhead service line. The pole fuses appear to still be connected. No obvious protection has been installed to the scaffold. This is costly and dangerous.

A few handy tips to avoid penalties and a dangerous work environment:

1️⃣ Contact the overhead electric line entity (e.g., Energex) and seek electrical safety advice from an authorised person. They can guide you on the necessary precautions and requirements for your specific situation.

2️⃣ Organize to have an overhead electrical line authorized person pull the pole fuse, allowing for scaffold er****on and protection. Make sure to reinstate the fuse once the work is completed.

3️⃣ If you need to install sheeting or possum boxes, ensure that no conductive materials have gaps within an unsafe distance of the overhead electric line. If the safe distance is 3 meters, apply a rule of thumb to protect persons, plant, and things within that 3-meter zone.

4️⃣ Refer to Schedule 2 of the ES Regulations 2013 and consult either WorkSafe or the Electrical Safety Office to identify the appropriate exclusion zones for both uninsulated and insulated electric lines. These resources will help you determine the specific distances and precautions needed to maintain safety.

Let's prioritise safety, avoid unnecessary risks, and create a secure work environment. Share this valuable information with your colleagues and help raise awareness about the dangers of working in proximity to overhead structures.

This builder is currently running the risk of an on-the-spot infringement notice, improvement notice and electrical safety protection notice. This is costly and dangerous.

Let's see what the law says regarding this scenario:

According to Section 68(1) of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013, as a PCBU (Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking), it is your responsibility to ensure, to the extent reasonably practicable, that no person, plant, or thing at the workplace comes within an unsafe distance of an overhead or underground electric line. If maintaining a safe distance is not reasonably practicable, Section 68(2) states that the PCBU must:

a) Conduct a risk assessment for the proposed work, and
b) Implement control measures consistent with the risk assessment and any requirements specified by the electricity entity responsible for the electric line.

So what do builders need to do to avoid this issue? Here are some handy tips to prevent incidents:

🔨 Builders and Scaffolders, listen up!

Safety is at the forefront of everything we do at Safe Lane Consulting. When it comes to scaffold installation in housing construction, these tips are crucial for a secure work environment:

🚧 Minimise gaps at inner edges: Don't risk falls! Keep horizontal gaps between plant and structure no wider than the width of a hardhat (about 225mm).

💪 Replace damaged components: Stay proactive in identifying and replacing damaged scaffold parts on-site and in the yard.

🔒 Follow proper tying methodology: Don't compromise falling object protection! Avoid installing containment mesh screening above the uppermost tie or single leg tie without engineer approval.

⚠️ Don't gamble with safety! Contact us today for a free consultation. Our experts will guide you in making safety a top priority on your construction site, ensuring the well-being of your team and providing you with peace of mind.
