Something we don't talk about enough. 40 hectares of our property is being dedicated to regenerating native bushland, and it's one of the things we're most proud of at Mount Avoca.
The land was originally mined and deforested during the 1850s gold rush and barely changed for over a century after that. When we removed sheep from the area over 20 years ago the natural regeneration that followed was, genuinely, astounding. Native fauna are returning, the bush is coming back and the whole area is quietly doing what nature does when you just leave it alone.
The Conservation Zone is open to the public for walking and mountain biking, and if you're visiting the cellar door it's well worth setting aside some time to explore it. More to come including trail networks, a restored miner's hut and eventually a camping and glamping site built with sustainability at its core.
It's a long game and we're happy to be playing it ๐ฟ
