We are excited to be apart of this new project that will see the rangers heal and care for country by undertaking w**d control, cultural burning and revegetation!

A great day out on Country yesterday to kick off our brand-new project – Healing Darebin Creek’s Northern Grassy Eucalypt Woodlands, funded through the Victorian Government’s Green Links program. Working with Whittlesea Council, the Narrap Rangers, Flora Vic and Melbourne Water we will restore over 17 hectares of this critically endangered ecosystem, alongside the Darebin Creek in Wollert. This area will become part of Whittlesea’s Bunjil Nganga Regional Park, providing important habitat for a range of endangered plants and wildlife. Over the next two years we will undertake w**d control, cultural burns, direct seeding of native species and community planting days.

We are excited to get going.

What's the collective noun for Sugar Gliders in a nest box?

We think it must be a snuggle!

Recently we found these gliders in one of the nest boxes installed by the Wurundjeri Narrap Rangers team on our Willis Nature Reserve. The boxes are being well-used by these hollow-dependent marsupials.

On Willis Reserve, the ranger team are applying cultural knowledge to care for Country and create a haven for wildlife.

Over the past few days, the Narrap Rangers, in collaboration with DCMC and La Trobe University, were able to successfully deliver two cultural burns, and the results were excellent! Not only did we hit our targets, but we also gained valuable insights from the experience. It’s all part of keeping our approach to cultural burning sharp, focused, and always in service of Healing Country!! 🔥

This week our Narrap Rangers returned Wurundjeri wiiñ (fire) to Bolin Bolin Billabong for the first time in around 150 years 🔥 Cultural fire management is a massive part of healing Wurundjeri Biik (Country). Our Liwik (Ancestors) used fire to shape and care for our billabongs.
In addition, our rangers worked alongside Professor Michael-Shawn Fletcher and his team from Uni Melbourne to retrieve a sediment surface sample, helping us learn more about the deep history of the billabong. It’s an exciting step in reconnecting with the land and our traditions. 🪶
