Great day to be apart of supporting Gippsland Grain growers 🌾🌾🌾

At the invitation of Gippsland Ag Group, the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) ran a National Grower Network (NGN) forum in Sale on the 21 July.

GRDC’s National Grower Network (NGN) is the community of growers and grains industry stakeholders across Australia who GRDC directly engages with to assist in developing locally relevant research, development and extension investments.

Over 30 participants including grain growers, agronomists and business advisors discussed challenges in running profitable and sustainable grain enterprises as part of mixed farming in Gippsland.

In addition to capturing issues, Agriculture Victoria experts presented on cereal and pulse pathology, and local Chris Jehu from Countryside Business Partners worked with some of the research results from trials at Gippsland Research Farm to analyse gross margins and to discuss revenue-capture options from using the crop as fodder through to grain harvest.

The team in Gippsland Ag Group will take the information from the forum to prepare a proposal for GRDC’s Open Call for responsive development and extension projects.

With the business continually growing and our busy season approaching we are seeking a Full Time Spreader operator!

Caithness Spreading & Fertilisers P/L is a small, family owned and operated, local business that primarily supply's and contract spread fertiliser. We are based 15km south of Bairnsdale, and service all areas of East Gippsland.

Key Responsibilities:
-Daily operation of late model JCB fertiliser spreader & loaders. In a safe and efficient manner.
-Complete daily checks
-Maintaining company machinery
-Communicate clearly with clients, understanding direction & reading maps.

Skills that would be beneficial/ advantageous:
- Mechanically minded
- Strong work ethic
- Have a hands on approach to problem solving
-Background in farm work & agriculture

The successful applicant needs to hold a current HR licence, HC would be advantageous. He/she will be enthusiastic, a good communicator and have the ability to work in a team environment.

Training will be provided in the latest spreading technology and equipment.

As we close out another year, we want to sincerely thank every client who welcomed Countryside Business Partners into your homes, businesses and decision-making spaces over the past 12 months.

2025 brought many firsts for us. Some real highlights included delivering multiple Business of Farming events in partnership with Gippsland Agricultural Group Inc, speaking at the Gippsland Red Meat Conference, and working alongside an incredible range of businesses from cropping, grazing enterprises, sheep and cattle feedlots, vegetable producers, vineyards through to robotic barn dairy operations.

We’ve had the privilege of supporting growth, structure and succession conversations across all stages of farming businesses. More importantly, we’ve learnt a great deal alongside our clients. Your openness, trust and willingness to challenge the way things have always been done is what drives better outcomes.
