A reminder that the Superannuation Guarantee payment deadline for the January to March 2026 period is Tuesday 28 April 2026.

For Xero software users, Xero recommends submitting and approving Auto Super batches before 2pm AEST, Friday 17 April 2026. This should allow contributions to reach super fund providers by the payment deadline.

Interesting article by LexisNexis Australia, on more workplace legislation

The recent change to the Fair Work Act 2009, which received royal assent on the 26th of February, gives employees the ‘right to disconnect’. The key term is that contact from an employer is unreasonable. Defining unreasonable contact is a key element in minimising the potential for ambiguity in disputes.

Instead of a blanket right to ignore out-of-hours contact, employees will have the right to refuse to monitor, read, or respond to contact (or attempted contact) from their employer.

Employers must now review and adjust their practices by communicating with employees.

I am lucky I have lots of work families as well as my own family.

As I work remotely 90% of the time, it’s always appreciated when I am included and valued as part of my clients team.

Being paid off the books is unlawful.

Getting paid off the books may lead to you being underpaid and exploited. It may also mean that your employer is not paying your superannuation and isn’t meeting their tax obligations.

It’s okay to be paid in cash but you must get a pay slip for every pay and the minimum wage rules still apply. Check out the rules about how you must be paid on our website: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/pay-and-wages/paying-wages
