How do you keep joy alive during difficult times?

If there’s anything I’ve learnt this year, it’s that joy and grief can exist all at once, and side by side. Throughout my life, I’ve learned that when things feel heavy, it’s doing the small things that make you feel alive. You’ve got to keep up a routine that makes you feel like yourself. Not a relentless grind, but a routine that brings you joy. During some of the toughest periods I’ve faced in business (and in life), I've kept my routine going as best as I could: hiking, tennis, cycling, eating well, spending time with the family, catching sunsets, and early nights. Movement clears my head. It keeps me focused on the horizon and reminds me that however difficult today feels, tomorrow can look different. When you’re going through hell or high water, you’ve just got to keep moving.

Joy, for me, is not pretending everything is fine. It is being relentlessly dedicated to optimism, and to a routine that keeps you there.

What about you?

The story of our solar system doesn't end with the planets.

In 2019, NASA's New Horizons spacecraft flew past Arrokoth, the most distant object ever explored up close. This pristine Kuiper Belt object has remained largely unchanged for billions of years, offering scientists a rare look at the building blocks that formed our solar system.

Now, NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is set to expand that search. Roman is expected to give us a new view of the farthest reaches of our solar system, reveal more than 100,000 exoplanets, and help scientists understand how planetary systems form and evolve across the galaxy.

From the ancient objects in our own cosmic backyard to planets orbiting distant stars, every mission helps uncover the story of our origins.

A Japanese teacher creates blackboard art designed to disappear.

Hirotaka Hamasaki transforms classroom chalkboards into intricate scenes inspired by anime, nature and Japanese culture. Each work is erased soon after—making impermanence part of the art.

Our epidemic of anxiety and loneliness isn't just personal; it's the predictable byproduct of an economic system that values growth over human well-being.

Modern society is facing an unprecedented mental health crisis, but the root cause may lie far deeper than individual biochemistry. Our economic systems are built on a foundation of perpetual consumption and growth, incentivizing people to seek fulfillment through material acquisitions and achievements rather than meaningful connections, purpose, and inner peace.

By constantly stimulating desires that cannot be satisfied, our culture fosters an environment where anxiety, depression, and loneliness are predictable outcomes of a civilization optimized for economic growth over human thrivability.

To foster true healing, we must look beyond individual therapy and self-help strategies and address the systemic institutions shaping our daily lives. A sustainable future requires redefining what success looks like—both personally and collectively. By restructuring our societal incentives and values, we can elevate community support, wisdom, stewardship, and deep human connection to be the ultimate measures of progress, placing human well-being far above the relentless pursuit of material wealth.
