Today marks a new chapter for Tobin Wines. As we welcome our incoming winemaker and viticulturist Mike Hayes, we wanted to share his words - because his connection to this place, and to Adrian, goes back nearly two decades.

Mike and Adrian met in the early 2000s. Adrian wanted to grow the best grapes ever grown on the Granite Belt. “I remember our first meeting and discussing the great vineyards and the wines produced from these vineyards around the world. We both agreed that the Granite Belt was on the edge of greatness and the soils and climate will underpin the reputation that was to eventually come some 20 years on.”

Mike consulted for Tobin Wines for nearly 20 years. In this time he and Adrian became the greatest of friends, and would discuss at length the finer points of growing grapes and achieving the nirvana of fruit balance, the energy of earth and climate, resulting in ultra-premium fruit.

The fortress of friendship continued until the recent passing of Adrian. It is because of this bond - and the trust built over two decades - that the Tobin family approached Mike to look after this new phase of the vineyard, and to carry their father’s vision forward. Mike and the team will continue the philosophy of Tobin Wines with particular attention on the Adrian Tobin, and Tobin family connection to the Granite Belt. “I am so excited to continue the Adrian Tobin legacy as a friend and in respect for what this man achieved.”

We are proud to carry this story forward, honouring everything Adrian built here on the Granite Belt. Thank you for being part of it.

Today, we share an important moment in the story of Adrian Tobin and Tobin Wines.

With the recent passing of Adrian, and after much reflection on Adrian and his legacy, we have made the decision to pass the day-to-day operations of Tobin Wines to a new custodian. Balancing Heart will be leasing and operating Tobin Wines, continuing the winery as you know and love it, and honouring Adrian’s legacy that means so much to us.

Adrian built Tobin Wines with vision, passion, belief and hard work. Everything you’ve experienced here, from the wines in your glass to a walk in the vines, has been shaped by his spirit. Adrian’s legacy will always remain at the heart of Tobin Wines.

We are deeply grateful to our incredible team, past and present, whose dedication, care, and hard work helped bring that vision to life every single day. In particular we thank Ian Dopson, Marley Hakaiti and Frank Zambelli who worked alongside Adrian for 30 years between them, all contributing to the experience and meaning of Tobin Wines. We have been fortunate to have such a team.

To our wine club members, customers, and everyone who has visited, supported, and celebrated with us over the years: thank you. Your loyalty and connection have meant everything to our family.

This is a new chapter, and not the end of the story. Under the guidance of Balancing Heart, Tobin Wines will remain Tobin Wines while continuing to evolve, welcoming familiar faces and new friends.

From our family to yours, thank you for being part of the Tobin Wines story.

With gratitude,The Tobin Family

🍷 A vibrant new chapter for Tobin Wines.

Tobin Wines has always been more than a cellar door - it's a place built on passion, exceptional wine, deep roots in the Granite Belt, and the warm, welcoming spirit that Adrian Tobin, the Tobin family, Ian and the exceptional vineyard team poured into every bottle and every visit.

We are proud to share that Village Heart Co. who also own Balancing Heart Vineyard is stepping in as the new custodians of this incredible legacy - and our commitment is simple: to honour everything that has made Tobin Wines so loved, and to build upon it.

The wines, the experience, the warmth, the standard - all of it remains not just intact, but front and centre of everything we do. Tobin Wines is Tobin Wines. That identity, that story, and that legacy are irreplaceable, and we intend to celebrate and protect them.

To all who have been part of the Tobin journey - as wine club members, loyal visitors, or simply lovers of great Granite Belt wine - thank you. We can't wait to welcome you, and we have some exciting things in store.

Watch this space. 🍇

95 points. 🍷

We’re incredibly honoured to receive this rating from the Halliday Wine Companion.

A true reflection of the vineyard, the season, and the care taken every step of the way.

We’re feeling very grateful.

After the press, the real transformation begins.

The juice moves into vats, where it settles and begins to build texture and complexity.

Through gentle lees stirring, we bring softness, structure and depth to the wine — shaping what it will become in the glass.

Some of you visiting the Cellar Door may have even been roped into helping us stir the lees…

All part of the experience. 🍷✨

Quality starts here.
Frank sorting the Merlot — because what makes it in defines what ends up in the glass. 🍷

When do we pick? It starts with baumé.

A few weeks ago, Marley was out in the vineyard checking the Merlot and Tempranillo — tracking baumé as the fruit edged closer to harvest.

Baumé measures the sugar levels in the grapes, helping us understand potential alcohol and ripeness.

As the numbers rise, we get closer to picking. But it’s not just about hitting a target — we’re tasting, watching the vines, and waiting for everything to come into balance.

If only we could pick the bottle straight off the vine 🍷🍷

A season in the vines. A sunset to finish.

The last fruit has been picked and the vineyard finally takes a breath.

Now we pause — and thank the vines for another vintage. 🍇

Lily Chardonnay — fresh from the vine.
Pure fruit, vibrant and alive — with a creamy texture that will soften beautifully over time.
Barrel fermented for quiet complexity, she opens with vanilla and cinnamon layered over crisp apple, rock melon and faint stone fruit.

Cool climate brightness brings preserved lemon, white peach and a touch of oolong tea.

Unfined. Minimally filtered.
