Is Xero down again? You bet it is.

Did I just have to cancel a xero training session with a new client? You bet I did.

Am I mortified? Yep.

But can I control it ? No

So here are a list of things you can do whilst we wait for Xero to lift their game and become more stable as this week has been a right mess on their behalf with constant outages.

☑️ Make a cup of tea (or something stronger perhaps)
☑️ Create social media posts for the rest of the month
☑️ Create blog posts for your website
☑️ Clean out your inbox
☑️ Tidy up your messy office (guilty as charged)
☑️ Do some online learning / webinars
☑️ Go for a walk (assuming you don't live in Ballarat where it is raining and feels like the Antartic)
☑️ Have some fun with the team and do an online trivia quiz
☑️ Clean up the house (assuming you work from home)
☑️ Return some phone calls
☑️ Do a demo of another software that could be usefull
☑️ Do absolutley nothing and be thankful for a few hours of peace and quiet

Wishing all our accountant and bookkeeper friends all the best with next Friday's tax lodgement deadline, plus superannuation deadlines, plus BAS deadlines plus IAS deadlines.

👉 Ideally, you should be reconciling weekly (or even daily if you have high transaction volume).
👉 At an absolute minimum – monthly, especially if you’re lodging BAS or want accurate financials.

Why it matters:

✅ Catches errors early (before they snowball)
✅ Helps spot fraud or double charges
✅ Keeps cash flow crystal clear
✅ Makes BAS & tax time so much easier
✅ Gives you confidence in your numbers 💪

It’s easy to think “I’ll sort it later”, but keeping your receipts organised now will save you stress, lost deductions, and late-night panic when June rolls around 😅

✨ Quick tip:
Snap a photo of each receipt as soon as you get it and store it in Xero or a dedicated folder on your phone. Future-you (and your bookkeeper!) will thank you 🙌

📣 September Quarter BAS & Short Stay Levy – It’s That Time Again!

If you’re registered for BAS, your September quarter lodgement is due by 21st October.

✅ Make sure your bookkeeping is up to date so we can get your BAS lodged on time and avoid any ATO penalties or interest charges.

🏡 For those in short-stay accommodation, with turnover of more than $75,000 per year, your Short Stay Levy for the September quarter is also due soon. I can take care of that lodgement for you too — just send through your figures or let me know if you’d like me to prepare them.
