Course 925
I can’t believe it! 🙌
This week and last I spent two days with the Les Twentyman Foundation mob delivering the Youth Aboriginal MHFA course: talking everything about young blak mob. 21 staff members joined me over the two days and yarned, asked questions, shared stories and had some laughs as we reflected on supporting young First Nations kids.

Today’s workshop adds to my total tally of 10,494 participants that I have imparted ALGEE and MHFA knowledge and skills.
I love this work so much

On the beautiful lands of the Bunorong and Wurundjeri, I get to do what I love and facilitate another MHFA course to a government body, overlooking the beautiful city of Naarm. Course 924: the standard mental health first aid. 11 new MHFAiders and a total tally of 10,473
Can’t wait for the next group tomorrow.

This week attended the Palliative Care Victoria 2026 Summit where I presented 2 papers:
Songlines for Deep Dreaming
And
Cultural Mentoring.

For the past 8 months I have been working with Palliative Care Victoria as their Aboriginal Cultural Consultant. Myself and Amy Noble have been working on the ‘yingawaugel bungim yiya’
Songlines for Deep Dreaming
a cultural plan that allows First Nations families to have yarns around any cultural considerations to care that the patient and family may have with regards to hospitalisation and palliative care.

Was great to present the findings in the morning.

The afternoon session I presented the findings of a research project conducted by Girraway Ganyi Consultancy, Macarthur Disability Services and Latrobe Community Health Services on Cultural Mentoring and Support for First Nations staff.

Both papers received positive responses and I am happy to be able to continue on the next stages of both projects.

This week has been a busy one.
Completed the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander MHFA course to a small group of organisational leaders. Great yarns, fantastic stories, realistic expectations and and loads of laughing and learning.
Mental health first aid is nothing more that a conversation, but a conversation that can save a life or two.

For me this was also a celebration: for this being the 921st course that I have facilitated since I become an instructor in 2008 and so far I have trained 10,441 participants.

Being the recipient of the 2026 national LiFE award for ‘outstanding individual contribution’ in su***de prevention a few weeks ago: has made me want to continue the work that I do with more passion, more flair and in innovative ways to ensure more mental health literacy occurs.

10 years at Scotch College, Melbourne and I love having a yarn within Year 10 history about the Stolen Generations and how recent in history much of this really is.
Fantastic that the boys are willing to learn and want to start developing allyship knowledge and skills

Attending to Champion Business Awards in Sydney last week was an amazing honour. GIrraway Ganyi was named as a finalist in the Indigenous Business category. Even though we didn’t win: it was awesome being a finalist and being in the room with so many small business owners from all over Australia.

Plus the food was nice!! 👍

This evening in Sydney at the National Su***de Prevention Australia 2026 LiFE awards, I was the recipient for the Outstanding Contribution Individual Award

This is both an amazing achievement, and I am humbled that the work that I do is recognised. I have facilitated 919 MHFA courses to over 10,400 people, and run other mental health workshops in industry.
I also provide mentorship to numerous First Nations young people.

MHFA is is just a conversation: but it can be a conversation that can change a persons life. It can be a conversation that may involve a person thinking about su***de, talking about su***de or planning su***de.
That one conversation maybe the one that helps.

I will continue delivering MHFA into the future!

It’s been 10 years that I have been a cultural mentor at Scotch College, Melbourne providing support to the First Nations young men. It is honestly and honour to work with them and have some great fun. Instead of our usual cultural activities we spent the day at Strike Bowling: bowling, laser tagging and escape rooming. We also got to check out the new stations in Melbourne.

Can’t wait for next month to catch up with the guys again.
